We're about to start a rebuild on the 400SE. We've been planning this since we bought the car in July and have now secured storage space for the body, interior and engine (a mile away) whilst the rebuild gets underway in our garage at home

Problem is, I've been in touch with the motor insurers who don't want to insure. Our home contents insurers don't want to know - they say it's a motor policy.

Any advice most welcome

PS: Left Chimaera at home and took his 400SE to work today as BodyOff day is looming - sounds awesome. Cracklebang I say leave it in one piece for a bit longer!!!!

Karen,

I'd say look to the classic car insurance companys, (a 400SE should be old enough for classic status) these companys usually cater for rebuilds/lay up insurance.

My MGB is insured with Lancaster (01480 484800) through the MG owners club, they've been really good with changes I've made to the car, and a mate of mine once changed his MG Migets insurance to lay up cover, and he got a good deal on the premium that included cover on tools/parts etc.

If you don't get any joy with them, I'd buy yourself Practical Classsics mag, and get some quotes from the many other insurers that advertize in the back.

One point to note though, if you already have a motor insurance policy on the 400SE, you can't take out another with another insurer, having 2 policies on one car is against the law - I didn't know this till just recently.

Good luck (and with the rebuild )

Dave.
