...the indicator stops working so you change the bulb and it works again.

BUT, the old bulb looks OK so you put the meter across it and its fine!

Worst part was the wife saying "well, its a TVR, what do you expect?" rolleyes

Hmmm. I've had the same thing happen with Ford and Mercedes cars so it might not be a conclusive clue....

I think its sometimes caused by the bulb becoming old. The internals start to get a little lose, and the power doesn't flow through them readily. Thats why they suddenly start working again when given a tap. Probably the same reason they then work again when out of the car, having been shaken about a bit. I've even known people who have had them stop working when the car is at a certain angle, because the internals "hang" in one direction and the contacts are again just out of alignment for the power to get through.

Replacing the car for a new is the only proper cure I'm afraid :P

I've had that before - the working voltage is higher than the meter voltage and the former opens up a break in the filament whereas the latter doesn't.......try a 12V battery?
