Lichfield TVR powered Land Rovers
Discussion
Anybody remember Lichfield Land Rover
Discovery/Range Rover conversions.
If my memory serves me right TVR Power
used to supply modified engines for above.
Anybody ever own one?
Expect mid 90's disco with modded v8
would have been virtually undrivable
around corners-mine is and its standard spec.

there was one for sale at tms a while ago. not heard of the mod to discos' though.
the range rover handling was better than the disco anyway ( less weight on top disco has a steel roof) and im sure they modded the handling.
I once drove a janspeed twin turbo rngey and that was awesome....

The TVR engined Discovery used a 295hp version of the 5 litre lump. They also considerably modified the brakes and suspension in the package.

I think the Lichfields were buit by TMS in Melton Mowbray before they got their TVR Franchise in the mid 90's.
I used to get my old Chim serviced there and the courtesy car was a 4.5 litre Discovery! I also tried a 5.0litre Range Rover once!
The cars used to get heavy mods to the suspension (lowered, anti roll bars etc) and bigger tyres / brakes.
They were a real hoot to drive. There is something remarkably satisfying about trashing a VR6 golf with two tonnes of bellowing off roader at the traffic light grand prix.
Trouble is, from memory, I think about 6mpg was the result!
There was also a bod in my village who built his own 5.0litre Discovery 3dr.
He deliberately left it looking tatty so that he could frighten the GTi boys.
The only clues were the bigger tyres and the mindblowing exhaust note. Sadly he died last year and I don't know where the beast ended up.

is that 295 tvr horse power? so that would be about the same as 180bhp on the standard car in real bhp
