TVR's from down under
Discussion
This is my first post on pistonheads, but as i am an avid TVR fan im quite familiar with the site and forums.
Now, to the point. I am a current mechanical engineering and commerce student at the university of queensland and i am passionate about anything to do with cars, but TVR's in particular.I was saddened by the closure of tvr and its possible move out of britain, but i also saw an oppotunity for someone to start manufacturing modified versions of tvr's old models if they cound get their hands on the tooling and IP rights. I am interested in obtaining the tooling and rights to the TVR cerbera and Chimaera models and building them here in australia. i have been in contact with suppliers here in Australia and (to no real avail) the blackpool automotive recievers PKF. I recieved positive responses with suppliers over here, with bluescope steel lined up to manufacture 4-10 chassis'per week and AWC, a carbon fibre and composites specialist firm to complete the body shells from moulds i would supply. I have also Contacted GMH (Holden) in relation to the supply of global v6 and L76 engines with the possibility of also using LS2's. Final assembly would be the only part completed by my company initially. Also, there are many government initiatives in australia which benefit small car firms. Holden would also supply many of the parts such as the interior and electronics of the cars. The cars would hopefully include ABS and traction control (but tc only as an option) as i am familiar with tuning and implementing these systems. The cars would be slightly restyled with different front and rear end treatments and the initial batch of cars would be built by myself and a few of my engineering buddies.
so pretty much, even though these cars may never make it out of australia, and hence wouldnt really interest you in the UK, I figured that speaking to fellow TVR enthusiasts would be the best way to go about this and to gauge your reactions. also, i need a brand name, any sugestions? I have sent off an email to Jack BRabham in relation to having the cars marketed as Brabhams, but unfortunately havent recieved any response.
