Budget this week with road tax rumoured for less efficient vehicles at £400 per year.

Does anyone know the criteria they use to work this out? A simple way would be any car over x litre, but I feel it may come down to C02 emissions.

Just trying to work out where we as gas guzzling TVR owners stand?

As previously it will probably come by using CO2 emissions produced by a vehicle over a certain year

Like the earlier tax increases, some cars are hit, but older ones arent so we'll have to wait and see

From what was put in the Times it will only effect those cars on the G tax band registerd from April last year. The tax will go up across the board but the £400 should only be for those cars.

Yep still amuses me that I pay less car tax (or should that be Road Fund Licence) for both my 3.5 Landy and 4.2 Cerb than my wife stumps up for our 2l Alfa

What pisses me off, is that It doesn't matter how big your engine is, or how much pollution it produces, If your not clocking up the miles then its producing less emissions than a little 1.1 thingy that's on the road all day long.
If I burn more I pay more, but if its sitting in my garage (which I also payed more for) then it as harmful as a hamster on speed.

Grrrrr.... mad this government is making my blood boil. It's one way of putting the majority of car loving peeps off voting for them - I for one!

soapbox All this flippin' emissions pap is just a way of milking the population for more money! Cow's farting in a field probably give off more harmful gas..

I want my TVR!

The view was only on cars registered after April last year.

Why they dont just put it on petrol and get rid of the RFL I dont know. The more you drive the more you pay, the more you pollute the more you pay. Simple!

The downside is that the DVLA suddenly look largely redundant, especially as the Insurance companies could then tie up your legality or not when they issue your insurance docs.

Carbon dioxide isn't a pollutant IMO. All this shite about it and government policies is like a secondary economy that enables them to tax air.

Having comprehensively failed to properly regulate the markets, an economy based on money, I think the "green" bullshit is a means for governments to wrestle back some power.

it's a ing farce.

here's a good one. (Best Michael Caine) "Did you know that the Toyota Prius has a bigger environmental footprint than a Landy?" All them unpleasant heavy metals in the batteries. Also, they're not particularly fuel efficient because of all the extra weight they lug around - you're better off with a good diesel. Still, never let the facts get in the way of a bit of good green PR eh?

Unfortunately no, but we all know where to direct him when we find him. Somewhere below No's 10 & 11 Downing Street should do the trick.

yes
Not forgetting the 'hidden' leftist agenda, CO2 being the gas of capitalism and globalisation and all.

All very odd this government - aim to reduce CO2 emissions by an air tax and then look like giving the go ahead for another runway in London. More planes = more tax revenue idea

Duplicitous shysters...
