The Malaysian Chimps are fantastic! They are now sent back to England. So don't let the Malaysian label hold you back.
To bring your own car into Oz, you must have owned it abroad for at least 1 year. Then you can bring it in if you have residency in Australia.
The taxes I don't know much about, but you can get the information from customs, or from a certain Nick Page in Perth who now has a 4.2 Cerbera. Please email me at faisalkhan@hotmail.com if you would like to get in touch with him.
Regards and good luck.
Im off on the tvr malaysia trip at the end of the year, which includes a factory visit. The chap who is organising it said that they now import chims back into the uk. I thought he said 30 cars per month but i may have miss heard..
I thought the MK2 body came about due to the improvments they made in malaysia?
G
Andrew,
so traipsing around the rainforests and doing the ecotourist bit isn't your thing!
For what it's worth, the trip to the factory in Malaysia is great. They really treat you well, and it's very well laid out. And Yoon Li, Director of Engineering, is a top guy.
Sorry to rub it in...
Faisal.

Errr, yes. At least they were when the demand was there. I understand things are slow at the moment, so they are not being sent back. Or the numbers being sent back are a lot less than 30 per month.
Rgds,
Faisal.
I had to resort to bribery with the wifey..
an extra holiday in may and loads of spending money, in return for going on the malaysia trip...
do you think a 500 engine would be classed as exess baggage on the way back ?
Is there away to tell is a car was made over their? i.e. chassis numbers no bits of rock with blackpool on them holding the seats together?

Apart from the lack of chewing gum and Blackpool rock holding things together, they are identical in spec, and I know they bear the English VINs if they are sent back. The ones that are sent to the Far East might have different VINs (at least the first few letters and last few digits)--but I didn't ask about that!
They might tell you of a few differences when you are over there, but I couldn't spot any.
