Makes me want to cry when I see Griffs going for 12K. Seriously depressing when I think of how much mine cost to buy and run.

Depreciation is a fact of TVR life nowadays - just think we were spoilt previously.

Graham
PS. Don't know if I'd buy a Cerb for 17k, would be tempted to spend more and go for a sorted one.

Yeah but dont forget that at the time they were a £37,000 car for early P platers. That is around 45% of their original value - now if my maths serves me right (which is cr*p I know), this means that something like £20,000 depreciation over 5 years.

That makes around £4,000 per year. If you think that is bad try a Jaguar XJ6 3.2 with all of the goodies - original price £40,000, now try £9,000 for a mint P plater. And Jags are not supposed to be that bad!!

..and it struck me the other day that at some point soon we'll see a decent, undamaged, 4l Chimaera, for less than £10k. That will be a sad, sad day. Still - chin up - had a great commute in the 500 today - roof off - depreciation or not!

look, call me a snob if you want but these motors are not for the likes of the great unwashed (bang for bucks notwithstanding)so if you are flogging one stick to your guns and make the buyer pay decent money. I'll sell the kids, mortgage the wife and rent my house out to some Afgahni refugees before I get rid of my Griff (he says confidently having just been made redundant)

Somehow I know Mrs Apache hasn't been informed of this......

I sold my last Griff for 12.5K. When you think it was 9 years old and had only lost 50% of it's original value in all that time it's pretty impressive. I have seen Chimaera's for 10K but there was more of those made so they are less desirable. I think we need to be realistic about the older cars.
The biggest dissapointment is the way new cars are getting hammerred. I have seen several Tuscan's for £28K which is probably what the dealers are giving for them (before they stick their obligatory £6,000 profit margin on)IMO The dealers are killing the secondhand market by offering derisory money for cars. One offered my friend £18K for his S plate Cerb,he sold it for 24K. When I sold my Cerb a few weeks ago I didn't bother with dealers, I sold it privately. You will get the money for the car if you price it realisticly and make sure it's sparkling when the punter comes to look.

If you have a decent Griff you are now probably over the worst of it. THe later ones are good cars, and rare compared to the Chimaera which has less broad appeal in terms of it's looks. It ws bought in vast numbers as it was reputed to be more practcal and easier to drive, Griff still makes people stop and stare, and it passes the excited little boy test every time.....Kids have impeccable taste

The other barometer to watch is teds ads section. there has not been a Griff 500 on there for ages and then they are still 18-20 grand, and the prices for the 4l and 4.3l have not moved from the 12-14 grand mark for months.

All thesee things are now future classics, they will not fall much further, get a good griff and make a profit in the next couple of years

Agree here dans, but my Griff was an early 4.0 and was brilliant too.It never let me down in two years and 14,000 miles. One service and some new pads was all it had. Top car.

Have to disagree, I have just took my Griff 500 off the ad section (and Autotrader) because even though it was up for a mere £15,950 I had next to no interest. And this is for a really lovely example! I had dealers trying to knock me down to sub 15k (even had one offer me 10k !!!) but I am having none of that, I'd rather lock it in a shed for the next four years (going away) than let it go for pocket change!
