Warranty no longer honoured?!?!
Discussion
Have recently developed a problem with my Tuscan's clutch (rising biting point - oh dear!), so contacted my usual dealer/workshop to discuss getting it looked at - under warranty (it's a 2005 mk2 with 18 months still to go).
Then my dealer tells me they've been advised (by NS et al) that warranties are not currently being honoured!
I can pay the full cost myself - and then seek reimbursement later (through the dealer) with no guarantee of success.
I'm sure I read that after the split up/going into administration etc, warranties would still be valid.
The dealer agreed that had been stated, but that it was retracted a day or so later.
WTF?!
Anyone else had similar issues?
Chas.

Chas,
Sorry to hear your bad news, but this debate/issue has been on-going for a few months...some on here think the issue will go away...although I don't think they have outstanding warranties (like you and me)...I think we could form our own club..

Just goes to show how well built the Sagaris is though, not many threads on this topic yet. Do agree with you its scandalous if the warranty is null and void. Edited to say If you ring the dealers in the classified section about their Sagaris's for sale and ask them to confirm if the car still has the factory warranty you will find they will lie through their teeth. I have done it and they say "of course sir it's got the remainder of the factory 3 year warranty left"
WHAT FACTORY..... WHAT WARRANTY....

I know some dealers haven't been paid for work done in December..so I can understand why they would not undertake any additional warranty work. I don't know quite where the responsibility lies between the suppling dealer and TVR. As for TVR Power picking up warranty work , I querried this on the TVRCC site weeks ago. Again some kept saying no problem...just wait...afraid I never had their confidence.

Very noble of them
wonder if that's the same line to people who have previously bought a car. Maybe they should re write their adds in case some poor person gets a false impression

i don't think thats fair, the guy bought car thinking he was getting a 3 year warranty and it looks like he might get shafted. If this warranty problem is going to be sorted out someone in the know needs to put the record straight.

My dealer is doing warranty work.
Your agreement is with your dealer. He sold you a car with a 3 yr warranty. Tell him he does the work or you sue him. Simple. Your contract is with him.
(TVR's website says all warranty's are being honoured. It's up to your dealer to sort it out).
I'm assuming you are the first owner and this is the supplying dealer?
Unfortunatley, I bought my new Tusacn 2 from Gorners in October 2005. Since then, they have gone bust, so it would seem that I'm left out in the cold. Even in the early part of 2006, getting warranty work done at other dealers was nigh on impossible. They simply didn't want to know. I approached Dom at Power, after Gorners departure, and he agreed to take on all the warranty work if any was required. I had some work done there under warranty in December 2006 with no problems. I've not been in touch with Dom since so I am not sure what the situation is. I just hope it gets sorted quickly. One of the reasons I chose to buy a new car was because it was supposed to be covered by a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty.

At this point do you think that any public statement from TVR has any credibility whatsoever?
No. But we didnt buy our cars from TVR. We bought them from dealers.

I agree the contract is with the dealers not TVR...
But some dealers are still flogging new cars advertised with the 3yrs TVR Manufacturers warranty.
Not that thats going to happen..means the dealer picks up the bill or not.
Pushing more dealers to financial ruin.
I'd get a brief involved or at least seek their opinion (free session or whatever it is), I'm sure abotu the TVR warranty but know with a lot of the mainstream manufacturers year 1 is down to manufacturer, years 2 and 3 are extended dealer warranties, if this were the case TVR folding has no bearing.
If I were buying one of the remaining cars in dealer stock I'd be looking at getting a stack of the price to urchase an aftermarket warranty or looking for something from them in writing saying they will honor the full warranty.

"British sports car manufacturer TVR has proudly announced a 3 year/36,000 mile mechanical warranty for all cars registered from 1st March 2005 (05 plate onwards).
Since it's acquisition in July 2004 by Nikolai Smolenski TVR has undergone a thorough review of component quality and manufacturing processes that has, for the first time, included testing the cars abroad in harsh climates. Never before has so much effort and resource been applied to TVR development.
Cars have been tested at high altitudes, at extreme temperatures, with low-grade fuel and at prolonged high speeds in Bahrain, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the USA. The driveline, air conditioning and heat shielding were particular areas of focus. Despite the fact that TVR's have never undergone this kind of testing before, the cars performed exceptionally well. Changes have been small, but many, with an emphasis on component durability and manufacturing consistency.
Just as important as the international test programme is the work closer to home, focusing on the quality of components and the ways in which the cars are manufactured. Of course, TVR has also benefited from motorsport testing of the Speed Six engine now fitted to every model in either 3.6 litre or 4.0 litre versions. The road-going 4.0 Speed Six is virtually identical to the Tuscan 400R engines that completed Les 24 Heures du Mans 2004 and which have also numerous class and outright wins in GT Endurance racing.
Press reviews and customer feedback have already recognized the significant steps made in vehicle quality and it is a measure of TVR's confidence that it will support a longer mechanical warranty term.
TVR Head of Marketing Phil James says, "We think the improvements in quality and durability will be warmly welcomed. You can't see them but you will appreciate them every day you drive a TVR."
TVR's previous warranty term was one year/unlimited mileage with a two year/unlimited mileage term for the engine. The options list included a second top-up year for the car that was standard on the range-topping Tuscan S as a precursor to the longer mechanical warranty to be introduced from 1st March 2005."
