Does anybody out there know Gordon Murray?
Discussion
Here's an extract from Gordon Murray's "Driven Man" column in the 100th issue of EVO last month:
"I'm often asked whether, given the opportunity to redesign the McLaren F1, I would change anything, and my answer is always the same: apart from updating the brakes and the lights, nothing at all. But in our current climate, the true answer is that I wouldn't remake the F1 at all. I would rather use the same design philosophy (and design team) to create a vehicle that would set a new direction for supercars."
"It would get its performance level from a good power to weight ratio - like the F1 - but it would achieve the figure through low weight rather than high power. The engine would be smaller and less powerful, but would still be the heart of the car. Practicality, size, ergonomics and visibility would all be high on the priority list, as would a price tag more affordable than the current crop of supercars."
"I'm convinced that with equal helpings of innovation and discipline, a supercar like this could be built. Now where are my pencils?"
Can somebody point him in TVR's direction please!!!??

I used to love Chigley, Trumpton and Camberwick Green. Pew, Pew, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb. Ah, memories.
Never did understand why he burnt all the puppets though.

Me too. Shame about the puppets.
You know, without you guys I'd never have realised where he'd started out in life all those Years ago. Explains where he must have got the Brabham BT41 Fan-Car idea from as well - Windy Miller's office of course.

LA: That V8 powered lightweight sportscar you intend to produce, in design philosophy does it lean towards Lotus or TVR?
GM: Oh, definitely Lotus, certainly NOT TVR!
Exact quote.
So he's intending to copy an existing idea - what's the point - Lotus does "Lotus" by far the best in my opinion? Nobody else does "TVR" with any credibility other than TVR and surely Mr Murray would not want to use a Japanese sewing machine (force fed or otherwise) as the "heart of the car" he has in his mind. He would have a chance to re-invet things his own way with TVR and if by moving a little in the direction of Lotus we ended up with a fantastic handling car then great - I never saw GM as a plagiarist, always thought he was more original than that.

By the same token GM held the achievement of the Cerbera and its engine/performance in very high regard.
And used atleast one of them as a test mule for the SLR.
Praise indeed.Saw one of those last night, eased past it coming home on the M2 just after Bluewater. They dont look quite so crass and crap at night. In the wet. From behind.

Your far too quick to rush to judgment. His tone was dismissive of TVR; one day I'll find out why. His whole reputation rests on designing fabulous race winning lightweight glued-to-the-taramc racing cars. It stands to reason he will admire Lotus before any other. Exactly.
This thread seems par for the course on PH at the moment, take one morsel of information & emasculate until done.
