My chimaera has a deep 3 inch scratch on the door. I've had chipsaway look at it and they couldn't guarantee they could blend it out and I'm not about to pay £100 to find out. They recommended a respray of the door which I'm also not keen on. Accepting it wont be perfect but I'm sure I could make it look better then it does now with some careful touching up. Can anyone recommend products and techniques?

I'd let chips away do their stuff for £100, it won't get much cheaper than that and paintwork is a sod to sort yourself.

I've been quoted £350 for a full front end/mirror case respray. So £100 for a chips away job, doesn't sound too economical to me - I think I'd go for the respray if the price was £100-£150.

I've got loads of chips too, if ever I got a new Tiv or had a decent respray I would seriously look into Armourfend, around £750 - so about three re-sprays worth. Although the car should look 95% perfect for many years.

nubbin, that is a seriously cheap quote, have you seen an example of their work, if so email me a phone number. As for armourfend, I've heard that the 5% not covered really shows up and when time comes to get a respray it is a tw*t to redo

Where can you get a front end respray for £350?

Ive just had a full front end, bonnet and passenger door respray for 540. Is this a rip or did I do well.

Even that sounds pretty good to me. Most of the quotes I've had in the past have been around the £700 mark.

However, they did scratch the rear, and other things. I will report fully on this when I get my car back.

I was quoted(by a main dealer admittedly) £750 for a door respray. Apparently, because of the way the front edge of the door rolls into the shut line, the only way to do the job properly is to take the door off. This apparently is a real pig of a job. I would buy some touch up paint (spray can paint is better quality than the sticks, spray a bit into the cap and use a descent quality brush) and just touch it in. Once you can no longer see the white undercoat you would be suprised how quickly you stop noticing the scratch. Anyway sods law says if you spend lots of time and money fixing it, the next time you are in Sainsburys some careless b*****d will open their door into you and repeat the damage.

The paint shop next to Hillfoot quote £350 for the front end - it may be grim up North, but at least it's cheap!!

Pity -- you can't get much further south than where I live so driving to Hillfoot in Sheffield might not be economical in terms of time, if nothing else...
