Can anyone that drives in London give any pointers on what to watch out for, regarding things like bus lanes, yellow box junctions and anything else that may result in fines etc.

Simple - obey the obvious laws and you wont go too far wrong:
Dont go in the bus lanes AT ALL. The signs change from one bit of the road to the next, and cameras are mounted on posts and in the back of the buses.
Dont forget that buses have right of way, and they will try to enforce that.
Be aware that bendy-buses are 17m long, and driven like a Mini Cooper S. Twunts.
Do not enter a yellow box unless you can exit it in one go, unless you are turning right. In which case try hard not to enter the damn things at all.
Watch the speed limits and do try to get above 5mph.
It is actual law to drop two cogs and boot it anywhere you think you might get an echo. Honest.
Finally, the golden rule: censored them, they're just as scared as you.

Definately watch the speed
tourists (step off pavement looking the wrong way)
Camera's all over the place
Terrible road markings and junctions that have none!

Its actually an enjoyable place to drive a TVR thanks to the supporting public!

Theres cameras everywhere (even in the back of busses) & they will get you for everything possible - so dont take any chances.

Be positive at junctions etc or you will sit there forever, study the route before you leave so you know roughly where you are going & dont just follow the car in front of you - if you feel hes got it wrong, follow the directions onto the route you feel is correct.

Many people dont indicate, make sure you know what they are doing before you put yourself in a difficult situation.

And bring some extra water/coolant both for the car & yourself, the biggest problem whenever weve been into town (which is very rare even though its just up the road)as a group has been cars overheating in the traffic.

Apart from that & whats been posted above its great...have fun

....and, if any of you stray "off piste" there are some utterly outrageous speed humps on most side roads - you have been warned!!

two things...

1. Oldest/most knackered car has right of way.

2. If lost, follow a black cab.

The road surfaces are generally rubbish so watch for potholes and sunken manhole covers
Pedestrain crossings only exist to herd idiots on foot into the same place so that they can all cross together at any time they like, regardless of whether the lights are in their favour or not.
You are on camera EVERYWHERE, be it SPECS, Gatso, Truvelo, Kengestion, ANPR or just general survellance.
Fill up with petrol before you get into town, stations are few and far between in the centre and expensive with it.
Drive everywhere in first and second gear - buildings make great amplifiers.
Pay big attention to blind spots for cyclists and mopeds at all times. They nip in and out of traffic all over the place.
If you get lost, ask a cabbie, they are the gods of directions.
Be pushy but polite. People will let you out but you have to be positive and make sure you say thanks.

Basically just have your wits about you and don't expect to go much faster than 15mph.

Black cabs think they own the road and one way streets will take you further and further away from where you want to be, its less busy at 4 in the morning but not by much. enjoy!

don't stop on the 'red routes' even to quickly let someone out of the car. did this at kings cross and got a nice letter inviting me to send in a cheque for 50 quid to ken's coffers.

Yes - don't be a sheep.

Sheep follow each other regardless.

There is bound to be someone who decides the traffic is too much and decide to go home - followed by 20 other TVR's who assume he knows where he is going.

Learn the route before you go - study the map

Please be aware of the following:

German made cars:

once a car of german origin enters the city limits their indicators stop working and the mirrors stop reflecting.

Swedish made cars:

A similar is that wiring on the indicators reverses meaning that while they are turning right they will be indicating left.

French and Japanese made cars:

All French and Japanese saloons will randomly stop next to any pedestrian and ask for £40 in exchange for transporting the pedestrian a mile.

British Made cars:

In London these are called Black Cabs.

Watch out for left-hand drive wrecks with Polish number plates(PL), and do not exceed 50mph on pavements or up one-way streets !!
