...all the history and management and stuff not withstanding (so let's not talk about the workforce (who I am in sympathy with), management, stuff etc)...

If you had an idea to produce a great mid-range sportscar with a fantastic 6 cylinder engine and you had a management and design team, and you could outsource production of the drivetrain to a scalable specialist and outsource production of the car to a specialist that had a truly scalable and modern production facility, could that be a winning combination?

Brilliant design idea plus scalable production capabilty plus superb brand sounds like a winner to me. If there were no history would I care where it was made? I dont think so.

Not so sure about the superb brand anymore - image may be a little tarnished at the moment. But if I had a brilliant design idea for a mid-range, 6 cylinder car and a scalable production capability (oh, and the investment necessary to materialize all the above) then why would I be talking about a 120k super car?

Confusion continues

the 102k car is an irrelevance a showcase no more. There is nothing wrong with the core idea.

Nothing worng with the core idea, agreed, I'd probably buy one, but there's nothing more likely to jeopardize successful execution of the core idea than the distraction of working on an irrelevance. Focus is what the TVR business needs not distraction!

You might want to read the back page of this months EVO, very interesting article about how the Elise saved Lotus.

Cheap, exciting, interesting styling, groundbreaking and fun.

Sounds like an excellent recipe to me, just a shame that TVR management don't think so!

£120K car may be a 'hero' car, but please! They have severely tarnished the brand and now they want to compete with Ferraris?!

but the whole 120k typhoon thing is just a frippery, a publicity thing even if it gets built. It may be distracting granted, but lots of manufacturers do PR things. It's not a specific statement of product line direction.
