I am contemplating having Paint Shield applid to my new Sagaris when it arrives later this year. Having read previous posts on here most responses where favourable although there were some reservations about other products.

On speaking to the dealer they did not recommend the product and said just to put money aside for a respray. My previous Reflex Charcoal Tuscan suffered badly from chipping and I am just trying to preserve the car's paintwork for as long as possible.

All constructive comments would be welcome.....

Do it.

Paintshield is easily the best product. The dealer makes money out of resprays (assuming they have a paintshop) and not out of paintshield as it's done by an agent.

Lots of discussions on this. My car is going in for a front end respray next week. Nothing to do with the stone chips its picked up in the past 2 years, instead the lacquer peeled near one headlamp after the lens cover bonding failed. Paintshield wouldn't have helped in this instance.

Also, I've got the odd stone chip on the rear (nearest to the windscreen) edge of my bonnet. Again, Paintshield wouldn't have covered that.

As you may guess I don't like these things... but plenty of people do.

The only bad thing that I have heard about it, is that if you are a mad keen polisher of cars, you have some extra work to ensure that the wax doesn't collect at the edge of the material.

When I get the Cerb resprayed, I'll be doing it!

My Chim didn't have it, and developed the scars of use. Got it fitted when I got the Tuscan and have been very happy with protection so far. No chips have appeared to date. As some have pointed out, it won't stop all chips - only where it's applied - but it covers the most chip prone areas, so seems a sensible thing to do. Although you could argue that the money could be spent on a respray, I'd struggle to get even the front end of the Tuscan sprayed for what I paid for Paint Shield, and I don't have to watch as the front of my car gets pitted...

Something else to add to this is that not all paint finishes can be touched up. Rosso Pearl is such a paint and as a result has to be completely re-sprayed. I'm currently having mine done at Austec following a door knock by an unknown party. Cost........ £3550. Hence being done through the insurance.

I'm divided at the moment whether or not to get paint shield fitted. There's no way I'd fork out £3550 for a respray due to stone chips. However I do want to preserve the paint finish, but I'm not comfortable with having visible lines on my bonnet where the paint shield stops.

I may end up going half hearted and getting paint shield fitted to the front and rear bumpers, door sills, head light pods, back of wing mirrors - i.e. the places where you wont see a visible line and suffer chips on the front bonnet lip.

Paint Shield has been great on my Sagaris in preventing stone chips over the last 9 months with only 1 small chip on the bonnet outside the film protection.

You just need to be careful when jet-washing not to lift the film, and if you polish it just like the rest of the paintwork the film is hardly visible.

I use Meguiars Quik Clay followed by Tech Wax.

Paintshield are approved by TVR, others not. Was the first Griff to be done at Paintshield as similar poroblem to Rosso Pearl - Flip Flop Yellow and full respray as can't be matched, hence the front end spray isn't an option.
