Does anyone know when the Sprint magazine first started, and details of the issue numbers and when they relate to etc?

I remember reading an acticle/post/letter somewhere saying that it starting as a paper newsletter, and was not monthly at the start, and that the issue numbers started again at number 1 at some point in time. The article contained detailed information about its history.

I was trying to get some backgroung information for my collection of Sprint mags.

I've tried searching on here with no luck, and asked the TVRCC archivist, who doesn't know the answer at the moment.

Hopefully someone out here may remember seeing the article that I did and has a better memory than I and can remember where. read

Up to 1970, the TVRCC issued an A4 newsletter. In 1970, a chap called Mike Aitken started Sprint, which was intended to be a monthly magazine. He published 8 mags, then stopped. Peter Watkiss then carried it on, but started at issue 1 again, hence there are early Sprints and even earlier ones with the same numbers. (This is all from my fading memory as I gave all my Sprints back to the club archives in 1991 and I no lo9nger have the reference material - if anyone can correct me, please feel free to do so)

Colin - were the first ones also known as "Super Sprint" or is that a different set?

Super Sprints were different, just a larger issue with more stuff in it that appeared when there was enough copy. When I change printers in 1984 and went to the monthly, colour front cover, we dropped the Super Sprint cos it was felt that every Sprint was super!

(We were young and naive back then)

Thanks Colin, that is a help. I just remember reading an article somewhere that went into detail about the issue numbers that were published. I notice that the old mags in 1980s didn't seem to have issue numbers on them.

Were you involved in the Sprint publication?

I was Editor from 1983 to 1985 and again from 1988 to 1990.

Before I took over Sprint was published when there was enough stuff and/or the previous editors felt like publishing an edition, so they were numbered so that when you received number 37 in June, when 38 arrived in October, you knew you'd not missed one. As I had them printed each month, I did away with the numbering and used the month/year format.
