OK

Discussion : Why are the prices of second hand TVR's dropping ..

The usual industry standard was 50% over 3 years and TVR was always above that so a smart buy - is it worse now.

Why are previously enjoyed TVR's such a bargain ?

New models will suffer from

1.The uncertaintey (sp) of the factory
2.The time of year

This will have a knock on effect to all TVR's but as im not sell i dont care

my theory is the Speed 6 unreliability and recent ownership/factory problems have had the most impact... although the whole second hand car market has dropped off over the last couple of years, there theres silly rising fuel costs, servicing seems to creep up in price at the popular dealers, then cost of living, silly gas and electric prices mean people have got less money, afghan/iraq war etc blah blah

Personally I don't think that the SP6 unreliability has anything to do with the SH prices dropping. TVR were considered unreliable long before the SP6 in the majoirty of the public's eyes. It's alomst synonamous. The uncertainty at the factory certainly hasn't helped. Speaking to someone the other day ther comment was:

"You're brave, hanging on to your TVR, considering they've gone bust."

Ill informed yes, but they aren't the first person to think that TVR has gone under.

But as Nano2nd has said fuel prices have gone up silly amounts. When I bought my first TVR at the age of 21 I paid £1500 insurance (parked on the street in Newcastle) and around 69-70p per litre. Now my wages have goine up by £2k, I pay £400 in insurance but pay up to £1.03 a litre. Just the mention of a car over 2 litres bring many people out in a clod sweat with regards to economy. Add to this the other rises and yes people hgave less money to spend on luxuries such as cars.

I myself have been hit pretty hard this year, with unrelaiability of payment from clients due to the above (nbot TVR) and repairs ont he Griff, so much that I am considering selling if I am not forced to soon. I consider myself a true car enthusiast but TBH if I do sell up, I'll not come back to TVR.

They will recover by next summer.

Providing that TVR HQ sort their act out and manage to solve the current unsurity that surrounds the marque as a whole.

Not an issue if you're not selling.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Been hit REAL hard with servicing and lots of other bits running into the thousands over the last 18 months. Wallet can't take a lot more and seriously thinking about cutting my losses and moving to another mark. Also really tempted by the new Type-R civic due next year. We'll see!!!

Plus more and more other manufacturers are making quick reliable cars, TVR dont have the massive advantage anymore and at 50-60k the door opens up to a lot of other quick stuff, after thinking long and hard im sad to say i will not be returning to TVR
