Having suffered a minor shunt back in May (ML driver took offence at me flashing him for going through a red light and drove into the back of me. Was going to turn ugly before he realized he was half my height. Cock) we've finally sorted the blame game and am from next Tuesday going to get a courtesy car on the numbnuts tab.

Unfortunately the Insurance company promised a TVR but can only come up with a ruddy SLK eek I know I'm being obstinate and I’m sure it’s a good car but I want a like for like replacement, not some wannabe SL for the conceited masses of chavdom. Besides it’s a Mercedes – it’ll probably break down.

What actually rankles most is that in the judgement of insurance companies ‘Sports car’ is an all inclusive term and dosen’t account for such things as performance. An SLK is pretty far from my ideal of a sports car – that’s the reason I would never buy one – and there was no option to get even something like an Elise. Why is there an expectation that everyone aspires to the same (usually) Teutonic engineering completeness that rapes so many of our cars of a modicum of excitement.

God, I'm not fat or balding enough (yet) for this.

Purgatory, hairdresser style.

If it is a 350 it will suprise you! No issues reliability wise although if you are unhappy, can you not challenge the offer?

I'm sorry for your misfortune, but even more sorry for myself! My car's been off the road since June, through no fault of my own. (A tornado dumped a load of trees on it.) Since there was no 3rd party to claim off - no courtesy car. (I didn't take the courtesy car option on my own policy, as it offered only a group 2 car!) As of today, my repairs will take "at least another 3 or 4 weeks". So, having had my holiday ruined - the car will have depreciated about £5k while out of use, I get to pay a £400 excess and, I suppose, clock-up a claim against insurance, wasted car tax, lost car for almost the whole summer... Life has plenty of ups and downs, I've never really felt this miserable before - and certainly not about a bl**dy car.

Sounds like DeR - probably because you've used "Teutonic" and "modicum" in the same sentence.

When I got done I was offered a BMW 320 or a Z3 - I just said "erm... that's hardly the same performance-wise is it?". 10 minutes later they rang back with an M3 convertible for me to play with.

rolleyes Oh I'm sorry, thought this was a chat forum about TVRs. Would have thought a forced abstinence of such would strike a chord.

With a 3 week old I'm getting 4 hours sleep a night and no time for any other fun so driving is a release. Why I should have to compromise that due to some tosser is the issue. I bought a performance car I desire and if I use that car within the relevant boundries why should I have to compromise for the next 4 weeks with a penis extension.

Having said that:

Good luck Richard.

Update: Trying to parcel the nob rod onto my brother in return for his 350 (ok its the Nissan one but at least it has the grunt)

Hi,
I will be due a courtesy car when my Morgan gets repaired due to someone reversing into me.

Can I expect to get a Sports car as a replacement? I see you will be getting an SLK and not a Corsa.

Thanks,
William

Whatever courtesy car you get it wil almost certainly be no match for your own car. (After all it is a TVR). Over the years I've had a variety of courtesy car ranging from a Cinquicento (following my mishap at Croft) to a Boxster (when someone drove into me whilst I was stationary). They all serve a purpose as a vehicle to get me to work, from A to B, or wherever but what they really do is make me appreciate my own car so much more when I get it back. So I thank the other guys insurance company for giving me a Boxster to drive for a few weeks. It's pretty quick but it is, to me, just a car whereas my TVR is so much more to me and a joy to drive every time I get in it.
I hope you get your own car back soon and whilst the SLK isn't the car you might choose it is going to make your TVR feel brilliant all over again.

When mine got reversed in to. I got a Boxster S, and what a pile of cr*p that was. Roof was broken, engine leaked every fluid possible and all from a 2 year old car with 20k on the clock.
In the end the alarm would not let me lock to car so they dropped off a 911. I thought "this should be better" but I was wrong, clutch went within a week and I was putting a litre of oil in every 200 miles! again only a 2 year old car with 20k odd. I was so happy to get my Chim back.

I think you may have to live with it for a while, but it will make you appreciate your Tiv lots more when you get it back.

Make sure you demand a like for like replacement. My insurance tried to fob me off with a normal hire car, I refused and my TVR dealer put me in contact with a specialist company.

Had the SLK delivered this morning. Its as bad as I feared, steering is heavy and lifeless, engine is sluggish, interior is cheap. Very easy car to drive around town, it looks pretty and when the enigine is revved 'enthusiastically' it sound ok, its just a shame that they forgot to add the fun. Perfect car for a London fashionista.

It does however, as a number of you have mentioned, make you appreciate TVR.

Eh - don't complain too much, I recently had a Nissan Micra... I mean, it did the trick and got me from A to B... just slower!

Makes you appreciate your own kit when you get it back though!
