Interested in your comments about David Batty - just considering where to have my Chim 500 P reg serviced (6K one). Previously FTVRSH but happy to switch to David. What did you think in terms of cost, service, etc ?
Thanks
Lucy

Cost - cheaper than a main dealer by a considerable margin. I believe you still keep a FTVRSH through David, but double check this with him. Certainly his servicing is at least as valuable as that through a main dealer to my mind.

Service simply first class. Let me put it this way, David does not advertise and hasn't for a few years. He consistently has people queueing up for his services. It usually three or four weeks before there's a slot in his schedule whenever I call. He won the customer service award at BTaP 2002.

Cheers,

Steve

I have used David's services for a couple of years and can recommend him without hestitation. I've just had a 60 month service (last week) and, as always, a pleasure to deal with him.

Cannot praise Dave enough. Above all he is honest and conscientious. Would not even consider another to trust Roobarb to.
I do know that he is especially busy right now for one reason or another, so book early for a service.

How many times do we have to point out that we don't want everyone to know just how good Dave Batty is. I am gonna need my Griff servicing again in another month (about 1500 miles), so can you folks please ensure he has five minutes free at the end of March?

Yes, he's brilliant.
Yes, he's very fairly priced.
Yes, he takes great care to ensure that the correct things are done.
Yes, he will talk you out of anything which will be too expensive or just plain unnecessary.

And Yes, just look at my profile and see how well he's looked after a typical TVR over a couple of years of everday use....

Doh! Now I've gone and told everybody.....again!!!

For reasons already stated I will NOT be telling you the 'phone number of 01483 811995 - or the "The Garage" is on the A3 at Jacksons Corner, Compton, just south of Guildford......

It's on Blythy's website anyway......

When my Chim 450 was last serviced by an indie I was presented with a quote for replacing the wishbones...."we checked the car over and you really should get these dealt with soon..." came the recommendation. I wondered whether this was a recommendation for the garage to earn a little more, or are they just decent guys for pointing out a problem.

Well it was October and I was in no rush as I didn't intend to do too many mles over winter. A month ago I called another indie and DB for comparable quotes to do the same work and also to do a chassis prep/service (clean up and waxoyl). DB was prepared to spend a few minutes talking through the issues and he was also the cheapest. So, given the number of recommendations on this forum I decided to give him a chance and booked the car in two weeks later (yep - he's always busy).

When I collected the car that evening he said he has some good news for me...the wishbones are fine, they simply needed cleaning up and waxoyling. Result !

Given that the only wishbones I know anything about are the ones you find in your Xmas bird, I would not have known any better if he had done the work as requested ....so for him to turn down the work seems pretty reasonable to me. Good guy.

I have had my Griff serviced by David for the last 12 months and can only echo the previous comments.
I booked it in for a winter service in Jan and as it had some work done in September David advised not to do service currently but did check out all my issues about the car for a couple of hours labour.
For someone who does not know too much what goes on under the bonnet etc-trust is the key word and he has mine.

I reckon that would be a waste of money as its already got a good performance filter.

Don't forget, most K&Ns come with a sticker for your toolbox

I agree with Matt BTW

Depends how clean the existing one is. I found mine was horribly clogged up and changing did make a difference. K&N can be cleaned, so no need for another in the future.

True

Cheaper just to buy the sticker off ebay though

Steve.

True enough.. I reckon you're only going to get any real change in performance by changing the Air Flow meter and other bits and bobs at the same time mind you.
