In order of RUNNING COSTS + RELIABILITY ??????

TVR......

Having a debate with another PH'er about this....

What order would you put the TVR range in [past and present] starting with most expensive....leading to least expensive....

Reliability and running costs........?????????

Tricky one to measure really, as some people do next to nothing for their car (especially if they do low mileage) whilst others (like me!) do high mileage as it's my only car, and also like to get everything and anything checked/fixed/replaced at every service.

In terms of things that have broken.

On my Chimaera - 2 years and 5000 miles.
£15 for a seat belt (Austec)
£33 for a replacement rocker cover gasket (Austec)

On my Griffith - 3 months and 1000 miles
£70 replacement Meta alarm sounder (ebay)

Why would a 4 litre cost more to run than a 5 litre?

I have absolutely no idea....

They're supposed to be kind of equal at the top

It's obviously not a linear scale! 6 to 7 must be a big jump!
I can't imagine anything being more reliable and cheaper to run than my Wedge unless you start to take fuel into consideration? And as this is a TVR forum fuel is obviously an irrelevance!

I don't want to deflect the course of your question but maybe a better question would have been which model gives the greatest grin miles per pound. I know what I'd say but I'm biased!

Every year I have set aside a grand for running costs/repairs and in six years the most expensive was only £700. With over 7000 miles per year covered my worst year was 10 grins per pound! That's Wedges for you. Cheap as chips and loads a fun too. Oh and the noise, I nearly forgot to mention the noise!

I would have thought that you've biased your list on a cheapest running costs basis too, otherwise why would a Cerb come in last after all the speed six cars?

Oooh Come on....You have to thrash them harder to get same from them.

I'd have thought the V6 Ss and Wedges would have been further towards the top, with their unstrained Ford engines compared to the over-bored V8s. Reckon I spent 4-5 times as much on the Cerb as I did on my S3.

Cerbera breakdowns (so far) 3 - slave clutch cylinder, starter motor and dead battery - about £1.3k to fix.

Just 1 breakdowns in the S, caused by overheating. The fan wiring was shop and it took less than two hours to replace, so around £120.

Both cars are high on smiles per mile though
