A possible TVR Chimaera purchase

I am new to the world of TVRs, but am thinking of purchasing a Chimaera 400. Went to see one today and it looked great. One confusing thing was though that it had a Ford engine in it rather than the Rover. From all the research I've done I can't see when TVR started using Ford engines.

Does this sound dodgy? Was going to get a garage to look over it tomorrow.

the only ford engines TVR used was in the S's except the s v8s of course

I believe the 280 tasmin was ford as well, certainly not a Chim.

Something in the deep dark recesses of my mind is saying that there was a thread once before about a possible ford engined Chimaera. Can't remember if anyone ever got to the bottom of why it was in there - will see what I can turn up.

any pics? might just have ford rocker covers on, you can get convervtors for the RV8 to use ford rockers

also if its got a ford 302 v8 in it i'd consider it, its a fantastic engine! okay slightly heavyer than the rover but loads more power and cheap parts and tuning potential

That sounds on - What type of ford engine? 4 pot 6 pot 8 pot.

TVR's should have the Right Engine in them!

To the original poster, it will be a standard Rover V8 400 I'm certain. Either that or your Chimaera is an S Series

Ok - I'm back. The guy reckoned it was a ford 4l v8. It had the Ford logo and "400" on it. I was thinking of ringing the guy back to query him further but have decided just to run the mile (or in fact 31 miles). Saw another Chim this morning and it looked great.

49k miles on it but had a new speedo at 6k. All detailed in the history.

One thing i noticed on both cars was the stiff action on the seat belts. Is this normal? Easily fixable? Safe? Also, the car this morning looked in good condition but had a bit of a crack on the boot. Is this easily dealt with?

I bet the other Engine looked the same i.e. not a ford! If it had 400 on it it is you bog std 400 Chim.

As for mine S Series, ChimeraS (Maybe - kind of like the sound of that)!
