Bonding stuff needed

Chaps.

Where can I (or my dealer) get hold of the appropriate Silkaflex or whatever it is that is needed to re-bond my headlight in place? Dealer tells me the factory are not being forthcoming with supply (quelle surprise).

you can get all kinds of Sikaflex style bonding/sealing agents from any Boat Chandlery.
If it will stick stuff on a boat then it will do for a Tiv.

Plexus MA1020 in a 380ml tube.

You can buy Silkaflex from most caravan/moterhome dealers/Accessory shops.

Now here is a subject near to my heart, I fitted new rear side windows to my T350C, having worked for hours grinding/Bending them to fit, and applying the black mask around the edge. I proceded to stick the windows in with lengths of timber jammed in from the garage wall onto the new window, both were bonded in and went in for the night feeling very pleased with my days work.
I opened the garage door the next morning and was not happy with what i saw, the black mask had pickled up on the inside of the window.
So i took both window out again, and cleaned up around the apartures.
I won't bore you with the whole story,
I emailed Sikaflex to see if they could advise, but they never answered. I was then recommended to a polyurathane mastic made by a company called 'Soudal' I used their mastic, and would you believe it? i had the same pickling efect with their mastic, You would think that i would give up by now, but no!!! I emailed that company for advice, and they phoned me whithin 10 minutes, not bad eh?
I explained what i was trying to achieve, and the problems i was having with the pickling black mask. He asked what types of mastic i was using, his reply was "I'm not surprised the paint is pickling up, as both mastics you have used have 1% solvent in them, and thats whats messing up your black mask. He recommended a product called "Soudal Fixall" which containes no solvents, and bonds as good as the rest of their range, and cleans up with white spirit.
I was able to purchase his mastic from a local DIY store, but you can by it on line aswell, just go to Google and type in Soudal fixall.
I have since fitted my third set of windows using Fixall, they have been in three weeks now, and are stuck like sit to a blanket, and no pickling. The reason i have gone into such a long explanation is i had the same probs when i fitted a new head light lense, That pickled also but i left it, but i lost it at about 40mph and it got run over by the car behind, I had the new one fitted by Castle TVR, and a superb job they made of it!! If only i knew of that new mastic 6 months ago.
Hope that helps, and i also hope that TVR are reading this, and start using fixall, as i saw a brand new T350T at a car show, and his windows were falling out already.

Thanks - my windows aren't falling out (yet). How come you had to replace yours 3 times? (or was it other peoples'?).

I'm leaving the bodyshop to do my headlights and tailights (3 of 4 need doing so a top and tail respray with that supercheap paint (not). I'll mention this stuff though - thanks.

£300 for 4 lens covers
At least £240 for red glow paint (thats the price for 1 litre)
Then labour to do the respray/sticking in of the lens covers.

Pricey cars these TVRs.

No offence Trefor, but I think you need to find another dealer...why are you doing all their legwork? Any dealer/indie worth their salt will have plenty of Sikaflex (or similar) in...after all TVR's are held together with the stuff

Lense covers are around £65 direct from tvr, firstly they are over sized, secondly you have to apply your own black mask out line, and they are the wrong shape, requireing all sorts of sticks jammed in from your garage wall to push them into the right shape till the mastic has gone off.

No they were all on my car, but the mastic kept on eating into the black paint mask.

Don't know - car's going to the dealer on Thursday via AA for a new clutch slave now. 6k service isn't until 9th August (when I'm supposed to have more than the curent 100 miles on the new engine build before they reset the tappets). They may do the lights next Mon when they do the clutch - I will ask.

UpTheIron - It isn't actually Silaflex - its a tougher bonding stuff which they usually just get from TVR. The factory have been bad supplying anything recently. I might not even be able to get my paint (only from TVR - unique mix/colour) for weeks as they have a 'supply problem'.

the product you are looking for is betterseal 8000 a dow industries product if you use STICKAFLEX the solvent level in this product will attack your paintwork don't get me wrong sticaflex is a first class product but there are horses for courses and paint is my thing if you have a problem getting it ring me

sikaflex-221 and not as I called it also the spelling of betaseal 8000 was wrong in my last post but now I hope all is well oh and its made by Dow Automotive
we also use a glass primer called Batawipe as follows
Red top is for priming pastic
Green top is for priming glass
Yellow top is the activator
