I can't get started

Thanks again to all who responded to my previous starting problem.I had Mr Beers Hot Start kit installed and it works like a charm!
Problem now seems to be with the locking system/immobiliser reading the key "transponder" or whatever it's called. In short, I press the button on the keyring and the alarm stays on. After between one and fifteen attempts the doors will unlock (same thing happens when I want to leave the car parked and try to set the alarm). When I finally get in, turn on the ignition and press the button on the keyring the fuel pump either starts or it doesn't. I have to go through the same process as with the door. I doubt that the key battery is flat because I have the same problem with my spare set.
Any ideas?

Both sets could be duff. It'd be my bet that it's the batteries. For the sake of a few quid I'd try that first before pulling other parts of the car apart...
