TVR Audio by Carl Baker

Most of us know Carl of Car & Bike Installations through his magic touch with the Meta Alarm system, however as I've recently found out his talents don't stop there. I realise not many folks with Tivs actually bother with the stereo in the car, as I'm exactly the same. I mis-placed the facia to the Cerb's head unit some months ago and to be honest haven't even missed it - until now.
Karen and I decided it would be a pleasant change to be accompanied by a decent sound system on some of our longer outings, so we spoke to Carl Baker (recently featured in Sprint) to find out what he recommended for the Cerb. Carl suggested a package of speakers from MB Quart, as a first step. The standard front and rear speakers have been replaced and a pair of 6" woofers added to the central helmet holder. I picked up the car from Carl last night and the sound quality, even with only a basic head unit fitted is fantastic. Remarkably it copes the decat and sports pipes without issue, provided the windows are up. I can't wait to see what's possible with a decent head unit and amp at a later date! I find myself in strange position - I'm now looking forward to the next time I can take the car out for a drive, so I can listen to the stereo. How mad is that!
I realise that it's all well and good me talking about the new system, what you really need to do is hear it for yourself.
So, if you ever see my out and about, stop me and have a listen. If you're ever in the market for an audio system for your pride and joy, you owe it to yourself to talk to Carl

Ah - and (before anyone else says it) my musical taste is probably a bit off key 
But you're right the facia rattles around in the boot for most of the year, then Led Zeppelin comes out occasionally!
Went to a VW via Bracknell some months back - it was a bit foggy that morning, so everyone else enjoyed "Long Misty Days" by Robin Trower....
But then that's also the difference: enclosed box accoustics or topless?
I think I'll use that as an excuse next time I'm spotted with the top on!

Question for you guys with decentish sound systems,
I had some infinity speakers put in the doors not long ago, ive noticed if anything bassy comes on the stereo now--the doors vibrate and it makes it all sound poo
is this just because the Cerb is Fibreglass and is there anything that can be done?

I haven't noticed this so far, but then again I don't know how far you turn your system up.
Loud enough to think its loud over and above a Decatted Cerb with sports exhaust

Yep that was me in the dirty cerb, so thanks for the spotted. Bill not sorted yet (bit of a rush last night to get to the monthly meet), but suspect I'll have pushed it up a bit by going for the reference speakers over the base range. They do sound lovely though.
yep, dirty enough for me to have to look closely to see if it was blue or black!!

It shouldn't have anything to do with it being F.glass. Take the door panel off (it's really easy) and check nothing is loose causing vibration's.
Also make sure the connections to the back of the speaker are tight.
Alternatly, bung a couple of 10" subs in the boot, and be done with it

I was speaking with Carl @ the Surrey met, about upgrading my system, and one of the things he mentioned was that fibre glass is "better" than metal when it come to the retainnig the accoustic's in a car, (something along those lines anyway) to many
to remember right now

Most of these heavy sound systems that are custom built into various cars use Fibre glass to house the speakers.
Does anyone know of a reputible car audio specialists in Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire (Carl Baker is too far away unfortunately). I've been searching and haven't found anyone competent with TVRs. I tried the Sound Gallery in High Wycomb but they came across as more suited for boy racers and their Jap boxes than the 'unique' electrics of TVR.
I need to get a AVIC-X1R installed and would do it myself but haven't a clue where to connected the speed pulse wire (everytime I ask I get a different answer).
