When did BP ultimate change ?

My handbook says 98 ron fuel for my car, so for three years I've been putting Ultimate or Optimax in it.

I noticed the other day, that the Ultimate pump says "97" on it.

Did I dream it was 98 or has it changed in the last few months ?

yes you must stop drinking it!!! stick to Ale I find it repeats a little less..

I think ultimate has anyway been 97 although I read somewhere that is degrades in the tanks so this is some sort of target figure a bit like alcohol in beer the manufactures are allowed a percetage leeway on it.. I don't think IMO your car will care though 97 or 98 unless the timing is quite advanced or your running lean. cos I think its the RON that prevents detonation and pre-ignition.

BP ultimate has always been 97. IIRC shell optimax is 98 - but my chim only likes the BP stuff.

Mine seems to pull stronger higher up the rev range on Esso Super than BP.

Tesco do a 99 octane.

While I was in Poland the other week, I noticed a Shell garage with some version of Optimax whose brand photo is a stallion. Dunno if it was higher than the 98 we get here, though.

Vera's sticky labels, still there on the wing after 34 years, highlight how "Only 5 star or 100 octane is sufficient for this high compression engine".

Apparently there's 6 BP garages down south selling 102 octane for 2.42 a litre - I read it iin 911 & Porsche World.

Tastes like polish vodka apparently....
