I'm surprised at how high the Cerby sounds, reminds me of the Triumph Vitesse Mk2 but with more grunt. Love the sound though and I like the production of the Video. Nice one! Both Tiv's look fabulous, but I'm afraid the Rover lump wins it for me.

Come off the gas sharpish in any of the first 3 gears* though and the cracks and pops will have you laughing your silly head off. You'll never want anything else. Promise.

But back on subject, though the AJP is nice and rorty, the RV8 does it for me.

Wow! Rover sounds much more bassy and rumbly - I prefer it. sounds like the Panoz Le Mans cars.

AJP is certainly appealing - harder edged, more highly-strung....

Is the RV8 a simple straight-thr pipe conversion?

Well it has to be the RV8 for me too, it just sounds so fantastic with the sports exhaust .

Curiously, (expecting howls of derision from Cerbie owners here! ) the Cerb sounds like a high performance four to my ear. Dont get me wrong its sounds great but not like a V8, is it something to do with the crank configuration? Any techie gurus out there have an explanation?

You are spot on - the flat-plane crank makes the engine behave as if it were a pair of in-line fours strapped together. However, the cross-plane crank in the RV8, effectively makes it behave like 4 v-twins. It is this, combined with the firing order, that gives the "chugga-chugga" soundtrack of the RV8. This was the explanation from Jeff Daniels in Evo Mag a while back.

bloody hell, now you've gone and done it. having had an 80 month 'sabatical' from TVR ownership, i've convinced myself that it makes sense to hold off just a few more months longer (trust me, it really does make sense!!). i see stuff liken this and i dive straight into the classifieds.

Agree with gd. Very nice clip.

Both are fantastic but the RV8 just shades it. Do another with some pops and bangs from the Cerb included (yes please) and it will probably snatch it though.

Edited to say: been for a blast in a 4.5 lightweight Cerb (thanks Rob).........'kinell....thought I'd travelled through time. But the Wedge wins the sound battle every time for me

At low revs its definately the RV8 for me. At higher revs (6-7k) the SP6 sounds so much better. The AJP V8 is sort of somewhere in between. Of the V8s the RV8 does it for me

Hmm...the Tuscan did sound beautiful, but what a quiet V8 !

No need for 'sports' exhausts or de-cats on our Wedges of course, just raw hooligan noise.

Wow, wasn't expecting to have to defend the AJP8 this much! Must admit that in the clip I was short shifting at around 5.5k and wasn't able to use full throttle due to an annoying misfire (which I'm still trying to cure...) I'll have to do a rerun when it's back on song, and include some more machine gun/artillery pops and bangs. Lawrence's (LAFR) Chimaera has a Dave Batty modified exhaust, not sure on the exact mods but it does sound good! The Cerb at full attack when it hits 5k rpm is just awesome though, the dyno shows mine gains around 65-70 bhp between 5-5.5k and the sound is like 2 VTECs screaming in synchronous pleasure...

Must admit that the Wedges sounds good though, I think it was GavinR who took me for a spin round Folembray a couple of years ago in his and the sound was awesome, much more bassy/aggressive than my old Chimaera...

you think that sounds bass and rumbly? - you need a 2.9 S2- to TimmyArt's general chagrin he's had to concede that the noise fo the S2 is harder edged and more 'can-am' than the Chim - the performance though..... well, that's another matter

Its got to be the RV8. The low rev rumble the rise in volume as it pulls away and the pops and bangs are on tap if you want them on over run.
You can't beat a lazy V8.
