Paint prob - any ideas???

I was refixing the headlight in my cerb today. Fitted a week ago but slightly wonky (difficult to see when on jack)!!! Anyway refitting tonight I put electical tape around edge of bodywork so That I avoided damaging paint with screwdriver etc as plopped light into its seal. Anyway the tape has pulled off some of the laquer on the paint!!! Aggghhhh.... Car was only resprayed 11 1/2 months ago. So dont want to fork out for a respray on the front. The laq is damaged just between the pod and the bonnet. So pretty obvious. Can you lightly sand to lose the edge of the laq , or can you just spray laq on top or does it need professional help!!

Really annoying when you dont get responses. I would post in the general motoring chat mate, always seem to get more response in there. Your subject aint really TV specific either so im sure someone will be able to help you out there.

The moblie stone chip folks would sort that out for you, with out the major cost of a front end respray.I used Chips Away for my renno, and they put right a long scratch on the wing and painted it, they did a great job all for £120, but that was 2 years ago now.

To be honest, this sounds like a problem for the original bodyshop. If it was black electrical tape, then that is not that sticky and shouldnt have pulled any lacquer off at all. When machining, we use low tak tape to mask off areas and do not get problems.

I would revisit the shop and see what they say. You never know they may help you out for free.

you can easily fix little areas like this ... gentle wet and dry ...degrease ... touch up laquer
let dry then a gentle wet and dry (wet) more laquer if required ... more wet and dry then rubbing compound and polish ...

agree you should take it back tho as if the respray laquer hasnt stuck then it was bad preperation by them!!
