Optimax, Ultimately the problem ?

One for the boffins, this.
In a bid to track down an irritating misfire which my car has had for some time, my mind has turned to alternative answers to my little problem.
My car doesn't misfire when using BP Ultimate. After filling with Optimax, it sometimes does. (Test has been conducted over the last two weeks)
Is this a coincidence?

Nope... happened to me too.

My griff would stall changing gear on a motorway with a tank of optimax, revs would just die instanly.
tank of normal 97 cured it, also seems to like tesco 99

Bizarre, this sounds very, very familiar.
I am quite pleased it's not just me - I was getting paranoid. It appears that this could be the problem after all.

Absolutely - This is not a dig at Shell. I am quite happy that Optimax has great benefits for engines in general.
I just think it perhaps doesn't suit my engine for some particular reason.
I'm aware this could be the same with other products. My car just seems to run trouble free when on BP fuel.

Bloody hell, this seems a bit more of a problem than I first thought.
If this is the cause of the misfires, I wonder why its happening?

A couple of theories that have been banded about on this one in the past...
Dodgy forecourts mixing Optimax with regular
Optimax is less used and lingerers in the tanks at forecourts, optimax also goes stale quicker, hence "bad batches"
Both of the above must be laced with copious amounts of allegedly and apparently, I've absolutely no proof of either!

Except for Sunday perhaps....
The problem on Sunday was the need to pick up a truckload of stuff from the garden centre and the DIY shop to do more work on the flat. The Chim was all ready to play
