Water Wetter

I know lots of people use this stuff but I never have. I'm off to the Le Mans Classic for the first time in July in my Chim 400 and whilst I've never had an overheating problem I'm getting paranoid.

Should I put some Water Wetter in ? If so does it matter that I already have anti-freeze in there, is the stuff Leven sell worth it or is there another product people would recommend ?

Water wetter does work. It wont salvage a knackered cooling system, but it will help a well maintained system remain cool.

Why not fit a override switch so you can turn the fans on when you are coming upto traffic.

I did both (Well until I drained the system 2 weeks ago to fix a crack in the radiator stub and forgot to save the old coolant!)

Fans seem to come on fine when the temp gauage shows between 70 and 80 just wondered if it was advisable to put water wetter in as well.

It will knock about 5 degrees of the running temp. I have it in a Dolomite Sprint race-car and a Cerbera. Same result.

Never used it, but as with all things TVR - if it ain't broke don't fix it! If you don't suffer cooling problems then you just know that sod's law says you will after using water wetter.

Water wetter is good in well maintained cooling systems but if you have any week areas it will find them for you.

I use it in the 400SE and and also in the race car.

Two bottles appears to drop the temperature by about ten degrees...

Used it in my Chimaera last summer and made not one bit of difference.

Well I took my 11 yr old to Le Mans last year and did nothing special. I already knew the fans came on at 90 (on my gauge) and it never went much above that. And it was hot there!. I took a can of water too - it's still in the boot. I haven't had to top up with water for a year.

That said, I know that w-w works. Some cars inherently run hotter (or appear to). Make sure the fans (BOTH!) are working, there's no obstruction through the rad, and it's sealed against the bulkhead. If you have an early one with the air dam (flip) underneath make sure it's still there. This is to aid cooling airflow. As long as you don't have a leak, or a bunged up rad it should be fine. Water-wetter will help ease your conscience though.
