DEFINITIVE TVR MPG'S

i'd like to collate TVR mpg's once and for all. i'm thinking of jacking in my TT and using a TVR as an 'everyday car'

however, i'll only do this if the MPG is reasonable. the TT i'd say does a relaistic 25mpg or so.

what are the realistic figures for TVR's? has anyone monitored their car or done any tests?

i want to go as far back as the Griffith then Cerbera, Chimaera, Tuscan, Tamora, T350 and Sagaris. want figures for all models if possible. are the V8's thirstier than the S6's for example?

Done lots of tests on the Griff. (MPG being a reasonable indicator of car health)

The numbers will vary greatly depending on how the car is used. Big engines stay cold longer so if you take many short journeys you will return a significantly lower number than the equivalent miles as long journeys. Town driving versus motorway will make a big difference too.

What sort of driving are you intending to do? Your answer should help people answer your question more definitively.

All depends on how you drive and what roads you drive. You say your TT does 25mpg. Well our 225 does 30 to the gallon - 31-32 on the DIS most of the time (I do reset it). So someone saying what their TVR does won't help necessarily.

Judging by your 'low' figures for the TT I would say you should expect 20ish mpg from a Cerbera or Speed Six engined car. 28mpg is possible doing 75-80 on a motorway run. 15mpg is possible too

Highest tank average mpg I've ever recorded on my Chimaera 500 is 26.2mpg, lowest 11.6mpg and average is 17.5mpg.

There is no such thing as a "definitive TVR mpg" - it varies by model, driver, nature of average usage, state of tune and a plethora of other factors.

i own a Griff as my current plaything and the TT for the more boring pursuits (although i still have turboed fun)

it will mostly be the commute and pretty regular visits to the hills round where i live. i expect the commute to be rather punishing (but it isnt a long journey only 8-10miles a day all in - although am finding it £50 a week job in the TT for this alone must be heavy-footed...) but i'd rather regularly use a TVR than not use it for long periods.

am thinking of a Cerb V8 (for the engine and looks) or a Tuscan targa (for the looks and the targa) but if the newer batch of S6's are siginificantly more frugal then i would consider a tamora (with a car cover) or a T350.

giving up a V8, hmmm i think i would find that hard though!

Few years ago three of went to the Lakes for a long weekend. Filled up in Conniston and by the time we reached the West coast near Sellafield two of us were running on fumes. Never touched a main road and hardly used anything other than single track roads. An awful lot of first and second gear with third for the rare 'fast' bits.

The MPGs were:
450 SEAC (Nacnud) - 13mpg
Tuscan (Bob the Planner) - 13mpg
Griff 500 LE (can't remember PH name - DOH!) 15mpg

I have owned a Chim 400 then a Cerbera 4.2 and now a T350. They can all get 28mpg on the motorway at legal ish speeds. The T350 is by far the best in combined driving. I rarely see less than 24mpg but I do have one of the very rare TVR's without a digital throttle. By comparison the Cerbera returned ~19mpg in combined driving and the Chimaera about 18mpg.

You've got far too much time on your hands mate! Just go out and drive. All you need to know is approximatly 20.

unless you do 30K miles a year, then the difference between owning a car that does 15-20Mpg avg and one that does 20-25Mpg isnt worth worrying about....its probably the least of the running costs associated with such a car...you want to take a look at the servicing and consumables....but the biggest one to consider is depreciation.

edited to add: e.g whats a 20K service on a TT? £300 ...in that time you will have needed 3 services on a SP6 engined car at £500-1000

My 4.0L Tuscan 2 returns about 21mpg on average
