Cerby, it would be interesting to know what your alternative is? I was half way to a Tuscan when my clutch foot went wrong, and I had to re-think the whole thing. Only answer is something with paddles or similar, so decided on 996 Tiptronic.
Present car has 400 BHP and really does deliver. I'm going to miss it, and I don't look forward to 'Porsche Rage' from other drivers. Wonder why people hate Porsches so much ?
quote:German cars in general, tend to be tarred with the same brush. It's the stereotypical pushy BMW which spends much of it's time stuck to the rear bumpers (particularly on Mways) of other cars, and the smuggness attached to the marque(es), in particular the de-badged 318i, masquerading as an M3. I'd say Audis, and even VW Passats suffer the same prejudice. Not saying that it's right, but there are an awful lot of cars out there doing their best to reinforce the prejudice. With you on that Digga. Did a fair bit of m'way last w/end. BMW glued itself to my bumper then eventually starting weaving through the middle and slow lane traffic. Needless to say he got himself boxed in. 10 miles later the same divvy appeared in the rear view and did the same thing. It's the kind of behaviour you have to expect from tools who are obsessed with status symbols.
Still, it's not inevitable. I saw an excellent red whale tale 911 being driven by a bloke with his two young sons in the back seats. Big grins all round. I defy anyone who saw that to think "Porsche driving w@nker". Clearly just a bloke out having some fun with his boys.
As McNab said Cerby, what is your new car going to be ??
One of my TVRs was a complete dog, off the road for 6mths or so of ownership (And I had it about 11mths ), but I was still stupid enough to get the Chimaera. It hasn`t been the epitome of reliabilty, but it does the job far better than any other car I would have spent 20K or so on.. I still love the sound of the engine, and it is a joy to drive..
