Hello to all ph's,

There’s a couple of Griffiths in my town which have always given me goose bumps on the back of my neck when I hear them roar.

Hopefully I’m in a position to buy a cerbera (need the seats for the bairns) for around £15,000 and would appreciate any advice.

Warranty
I’m fairly inept with anything mechanical so I’d have to buy from a garage and get a warranty (any suggestions on types of warranty).

Garages
Does any one have any comments about the following North East Garages?
Sports and Specialst Car Company in York
Hexham Headless Carriages
GC Motors Harrogate

Insurance
I’ve trawled this site and found the following insurance details.

Another to add to your long list of insurance companies is Peart. They advertise in the TVRcc magazine, if you're not a member, it's something you should look into too. Lots of people offer discounts to members and this would cover the membership alone (and the magazine is very good for a club mag)

Not sure who Hexham 'Headless' Carriges are, but i've always found Tony at Hexham Horseless Carriges very helpful

BEFORE you buy it..

Get it inspected by someone that really knows cerberas..

It could be a shed, or it could be perfect or anywhere in between, asking prices doesn't really come into it.

Yes, I can recommend Hexham Headless Carriages, although people may convince you to go elsewhere due to main dealer prices. I have been to SSCC and found Jon and Steve to be very good as well. So although in the north east there's not a large choice, they do seem to be good
Edit to add try A-Plan for insurance

I would get in touch with James Agger at sales@jamesagger.com or have a look at his web site www.jamesagger.com he knows what to look for in Cerbera's and is a cracking bloke too. He travels all over the country.

look on the cerbera forum and checkout any threads with people asking for advise.I have had one for 6 years and love it.With £15000 becarefull on what you buy it is worth checking the service history check what work has been done slave cylinder is a good one and any upgrades such as brakes, discs, clutch, shocks, if these have been done then I would say that the previous owner has looked after the car. I have spent thousands getting the car right too much to mention.I would keep some money aside for anything that might go wrong lets face it for that money it is going to be a few years old and like any car a few years old they can go wrong.Happy hunting hope you find the right one like I said I have had mine 6 years and still get the every time I drive it you will love it

15K cerb from a TVR dealer (or TVR indie) is likely to be at the poorer cond and older end of the spectrum. A warranty on a 10 yr old car is pretty worthless as well. You are still looking at big bills and will be sucked into using main dealer servicing (which is often twice the cost of indies)
Buy a great car privately , buy a known car, get it inspected by an expert (eg APM) and get an AA warranty for £60 and be ready to fork out £3K pa for repairs and servicing (tyres , gas and ins on top).
£15K will now get you a 98 4.5 if you look hard enough. I would say to avoid cars that are from 'all marques' garages and avoid AutoTrader (full of cars owned by people who dont have the passion and care to own them).

ps you like the sound of a griff - dont forget that the Cerb engine is totally different ie not a yank V8 thang. A cerb is harder to live with every day than most other TVRs.
