Sadly I have to report that H L Gorner TVR has ceased trading. I would like to say a VERY BIG THANKYOU to everyone for the support that you have given to myself & all the TVR Team over the last 3 years.

Sorry to hear that. I got the impression that it was a very professional outfit.
Things have been very tough in the motor trade I know and I think many people are struggling to make a living selling cars.
But it's sad to see TVR struggling in their home country, especially while Porsche and BMW find unprecedented success here.

So, whats with the article in Sprint, page 7, stating clearly that HL Gorner "continues to flourish, with the full support and backing of TVR Engineering". Someone is telling porkies. This is a real shame for all employees and customers alike. Good luck to you all.

Didnt the article say that the tvr side was still trading whilst in administration whilst they sold off the other mainstream parts of the dealership skoda etc... This would suggest to me that the tvr side was profitable but the cash ran out to keep it going before they managed to sell the other bits of the business.
looks like the tvr side was a casualty of the parent co going down..

I think if it was a going concern then the administrators would have tried to sell it as such - draw your own conclusions. Spring sale obviously didn't work too well - cars are hard to shift at the moment - especially high value, niche market ones!
Regarding the H L Gorner TVR statement in Sprint, bear in mind that I wrote that piece about a month ago to the day, to meet the printing deadlines of the magazine. No "porkies" as E2DJH put it, just that circumstances have changed a heck of a lot from day to day, never mind month to month.
TVR remained as supportive as they could be in the circumstances.
I think it's fair to say that the administrators had to take the difficult decision to pull the plug as no buyers were forthcoming. "Graham" sums the rest up fairly well.
Just to echo Mike's earlier statement, we've had a great three years!

I'm sure this is the case, and i'm sure that everyone did what they possibly could to keep the business afloat, but IMHO articles of the nature of that printed in Sprint do not serve the purchasing public well.
I for one would be extremely upset if i had made a substantial purchase from a company who went through such a "change" in the period of 4 weeks.
I personally "misinterpreted" the statement of "business as usual for the Wigan TVR Site" in Sprint. I inferred from this that the company was saying "its ok to buy from us". Silly me.
I repeat my concern for the loyal employees and customers - especially the most recent ones.
Very sad day for you guys - hope you find new employment !
I guess that sales are just not that great at present - I hear from plenty of other main stream sales people that new car sales are very flat indeed..
Just waiting for JEllison to pop his head over the parapit to tell us that the LS6 is TVR's great white hope

Thank god that those in the know stayed away, imagine trying to extricate a car on the premises

If you've ever been in the position of trying to save a company you will understand the prudence of maintaining an appearance of "business as usual" I think. No one runs a business with the aim of failing and most businesses have to trade through a rough patch at some time. The difference between failure and survival at such times is often the ability to retain the confidence of the customers and you just can't do that by coming out and saying "we're nearly under but we're going to try to trade out of it...!". Not so much telling porkies as just doing what you have to do when trying to save a business, and the jobs that go with it.
To me the question is more what TVR will be doing to ensure recent purchasers continue to receive after sales support - you'd hope they will be getting in contact with these owners directly.
Don
We were so very, very sorry to hear the bad news, Mike, after we thought things were getting better. We have always enjoyed our visits from Shropshire and always been made welcome with a cup of coffee and a friendly chat. The parts staff always very helpful and professional. You will all be missed - great bunch of folks - hope you all get new employment soon. Kind regards, Ian and SueFfirg 005 said:

Another question maybe what are TVR going to do with all these stock cars? I assume any that HL Gorner had on 'sale or return' or financed by Capital? will have to go back. They must be piling up a lot of stock at the factory?!

Clearly he did know otherwise
This not sad, its TRAGIC. All the personel at H L Gorners went beyond the call of duty to ensure TVR and in fact customers of all makes received the BEST service on every visit. They probably didn't always get it right (but none of us do) but they always tried to get it right and that counts for a lot. Mike and Stuart were regular and positive contributors to discussions on Pistonheads but there were a team behind them who were equally enthusiastic, lets wish them all the best for the future, its hard out there in the motor trade at the moment (believe me). Mike, you know my views on what has gone on and nobody tried harder to save the situation than yourself and for that you should be recognised, good luck in the future and keep in touch. As well as doing business together on occasions I consider many of you guys as friends. Keep in touch sTeVeR

Like the topic title says a very "Sad Day". I bought my car from HL Gorner, and took it back there for its annual service, I was thinking I'd better book it in for this year. As much as I hated the journey across there it was always nice to arrive to a friendly smile and welcome, so in that respect I'll miss this now. The service I received from all there was exemptlary (sp?)and I always felt that it was not just another car to them, but something/someone they knew and cared for.
Good Luck to all the staff, and hope they are able to walk straight into future employment.

Sad that it finally had to happen, good luck Mike and Stuart, as a customer I appreciated your help and support. TVR themselves have been very good to me, honouring the agreement with HLG for the purchase of my new car. On my factory visit last week I was very impressed with the number of cars in production, as far as I could see the future looked bright.
