Just a note to all who know me, I had a rear tyre blow out on me as i was going home up Prince of wales road, skidded and slid sideways into some railings about 23.00hrs a couple of weeks ago. Insurance says it's a total loss and wrote it off.
Was looking forward to Chatsworth, the Growl and BNG but might still turn up yet in Mrs.Baldy's MG.

I dont know if this is timed wrong, but just wandering...
What were the exact details? What speed? how did you try to overcome the blow-out? how did the car react, etc etc... just curious, always hear about blowouts nearly always leading to total write-offs but never any details on what the driver actually experiences....

SXS, I braked
as it started to go sideways was doing about 40ish, shouldn't have braked but it was an automatic reaction.
Redeye, it was a 5 litre Griff 500. Don't know about buying it back as i've never had any experience in write offs before.
Bev, maybe back with a Tuscan next year when i've saved up but i just don't know if rear wheel drive, power and me mix. I've been trying to think what car to get next but can't seem to make up my mind as nothing seems to measure up to a TVR.

You'd probably have done exactly the same with a FWD car. A blow out is a blow out, and sometimes there;s very little a driver can do to save the day (I remember watching a Rover 800 suffer a blow out in the outside lane of the M25 and shoot across the two inside lanes and up the banking on the other side a few years back
).
If TVRs are your thing (and they should be
), stick with them. Might be an idea to book a Ride Drive course when you get your next one - it should certainly help get the confidence up again.

Oh Richard, i am so sorry to here the bad news, at least you are OK. hope you are going to replace it with another TVR, life would not be the same without one for you.
You must come to Chatsworth with TVR or not as it is always nice to see Mr and Mrs baldy. Please keep intouch.

I had a rear blowout on the way to the Griff Growl a couple oy years ago. I was doing about 50 - 60. I heard a massive bang, the steering veered to the left and to the right slightly and then was OK.
Th tyre had a big hole in it. I even managed to drive the 2 miles left to the growl without the the rim touching the road.
Thanks to somebody at the growl lending me their space saver (didn't take mine, ooops) I was able to go and get a new tyre.

I had a front tire go bang at high speed on a motor way a few years ago.
It pulled sharply to the right ( off side tire went ) and I had a heavy kiss with the central reservation.
I needed new paint down that side of the car, a new mirror, and a new wheel ( totaly F@@@KED ). ( and new underwear ). I consider myself very very lucky, and have full sympathy to anyone who has had a similar experience.
I still keep the old wheel by the garage door, it sort of motivates me to look after my tyres and pressures ( not that I know what caused the blow out )
