Final destination (bare with me admins)

Just watching final destination 2 which has a monumental car crash in it and it reminded me of lack of airbags ABS etc in the TIV. Now obviuosly I knew this before I got the chim and would be lying if it wasn't part of the appeal of a "proper" drivers car, but does anyone else at least think of these matters from time to time...

)When PW was asked why he was so anti airbags in his cars, he made a quite valid point in that, air bags are dangerous with an open top sports car as the air bag tends to cause the driver's head to be forced back and upwards as well as the arms outwards....having had a major accident in a TVR, i am fecking glad they dont have airbags.

Yeah, because all the other makers producing open top cars with airbags must know less than him
Next you'll be saying ABS is rubbish on a road car...
I think that Airbags and ABS along with other safety aids such as SIB's are a major advancement road safety and whole heatedly indorse them except where it come to airbags and soft top cars.
Your average hardtop car has substantial stability in the roof protecting the occupants but soft tops do not. The TVR roof will collapse flat if the vehicle rolls and mohiar and plastic window are no defence again debri intering the cabin.
I my case, as the car spun into a tree lined bank the softop was wripped to shreds as tree branches etc. entered the cabin. Had i not been able to duck down below the dash level (which an airbag would have prevented me from doing) i would have sustained severe head and arm injuries.

Fair play if it was from experiance, I'm suprised the seatbelt didn't stop you ducking below dash level though? Unless you went sideways in which case the airbag wouldn't have stopped you and may not even have deployed?
Maybe it is different in cars made by BMW, Merc etc as they have bars that pop up to support the car in the case of a roll (the rear headrests fire upwards on a 3 series for example) and the windscreen surrounds are very, very strong so you shouldn't have to duck to stop getting crushed if you see what I mean.
