I remember reading about this on PH and have have let my RAC membership lapse in favour or persuing a recovery service with a warranty

However I do remember reading about some warranties (not sure which ones and can't remember if it was mentioned at the same time as the AA one) which insist your car has been maintained by a recoginised dealer. Since I have a gearbox issue going on at the moment I wanted to know if having work done with an Indie would negatively affect signing up for a AA policy. Obviously it's too late to sign up to AA for the my current issue!!

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) they can share with me and how much does it cost or if there is an alternative recovery service with a warranty.

Thanks

Jo

AA warranty is great and is ok with you using any VAT reg garage so long as the maintenance from the date of your policy inception is in line with manufacturers rules.
AA warranty only pays out (£500 x 3 pa) if you are broken down and cant be fixed at roadside.

Hi Jo - we met on Sunday.

I have one of these AA warranties and my T350 just went to Racing Green on the back of one of their trucks this morning to have a new Alternator.

AA to pay (I have to pay first £25 of claim).

The policy specifies < 100,000 miles, car less that 10 years old and serviced by a vat reg garage (service history) - so you should be OK with an indie. They did not actually check this.

It's well worth having IMHO.

I spoke to The AA last year because I was late for one of my services. The word from them is that they have to prove a link between lack of servicing and the issue being claimed for. If an item fails that is not part of the service schedule or that is but would not have been identified during a service then they have to honour the claim regardless of the service requirement in their T&C's. They are not willing to go to court to argue this point so they just pay up. It seems the law is not normally on their side over issues like this. Any item on the service schedule where a future failure could have been identified is of course subject to the need for a service history and they do hold that when it says XX miles or XX months whichever the sooner. They mean which ever the sooner even if you've done no miles.

Hi Rev.

Thanks for your reply, I'm glad to hear are successfully claiming, £25 is such low low price for paying for that repair. Definately worth the premium.

Thanks

Hi Gazzab

Thanks for your reply. Did you mean prior to purchase of the policy or car ?

I'll be making a claim in the next week or so as they couldn't repair my broken diff at the roadside. Don't anticipate any problems.

Thanks tvrbob I'll bear that in mind. Have just signed up so t&c's are in the post! V V impressed with the AA sales side they offered to call me this afernoon (after I've read my PH responses) and they did! all done and dusted on the train back to Euston.

Thanks

It's worth bearing in mind that the AA no longer do the £1000 policy now - only the £500 .. sadly

It's only a matter of time until they black list TVR's from this ..IMHO.

Prior to purchase of the policy as I recall the converstaion I had with them when I made a claim. They asked to see evidence of all service history since the car was added to the policy. As it hadnt needed a service in that 7 month period I said that I didnt have any for that period! They said fine!

Having said that many things can be subject to inspection during a service so it's best to accept that servicing to makers guidelines is the only way to have parts & labour peace of mind.

Does anyone know if the RAC do something similar, as after my new clutch a bit of a helping hand towards any breakage would be nice... I've check their website, so presume not, but you never know.

We moved away from the AA last year, as the RAC wanted our business so badly they offered a very good price, but I'm sure the AA will do the same thing this year, so I could get the cover then.
