AA Breakdown repair cover

The AA have an additional policy to go with your normal breakdown cover, for £65 they will cover up to 5 repairs a year at up to £500 each, minus £25 excess, surely that has to be a bargain for TVR owners, not to mention some other makes, but not sure about which garage they might take you to, could be scary if you had to go to their choice, any thoughts?

Loads of us have this cover. It really is breakdown though, it doesn't cover cars like the traditional parts and labour warranties do. You really need to read the small print. I had a real breakdown last year but I chose to limp the car to a garage. To my horror I found this action invalidated that claim. That cost me near £750.

For £58 pound a year they will cover up to £1500 per year in 3 x £500 lots, not quite sure what happens if the first "repair" is over £500 - I don't think you can lump them all together.
Whichever way I think its a good deal - except for !!
If you do some of the servicing yourself and can't produce an Invoice for the last Recommended Service and a stamped Service record book from a VAT registered garage, they won't settle. If you have a specialist car you should be able to take it to a specialist garage or one of your choice - however if you contact the AA because you are interested you can download their conditions and they are pretty extensive.
Having an MG that is "allegidly" prone to HGF I thought this was the answer, but as I do the "basic" servicing myself and therefore can't get the garage to produce the "requirements" - I'm stumped.

I've got the £100 version, max 3 x £1000 claims a year, they don't do that one for new customers anymore though. My clutch broke last year & they paid £950 for a new one & they're paying £975 towards my new head gasket that's going in next week.
