I'm doing the typical winter project and have decided to take the body off my Chimaera, however the body doesn't want to come off anybody got any ideas? I've removed the 2 bolts in the boot, the 2 in the front, all the ones on the pan and the 2 in the rear wheel arches gave it a tug and nothing happened.

Anyone done this?????????

There's four in the boot for a start, all behind the fuel tank. See schmig's thread for details.
Then
Seat belt bolts?
Steering column?
Front ARB mounts get in the way (just)

Try those for starters; hope all goes well.

Iain

Sorry I forgot to mention I have removed the seat belt bolts and the steering column. Not sure where the other 2 are in the boot but I'll have a look I just got the 2 on the bottom 2 main chassis rails, does schmig's go it the whole lot? I'm also felling quite dumb now as I don't know what ARB stands for.

There may be some obscure part that only exists on a TVR and nothing else, but otherwise I'd say it was an Anti Roll Bar....

Thanks Richard, I'm really scared now that I've had a look through the links you sent.
Just got another question, on the picture of the chassis it looks like there are 2 fixing bolts on top of the chassis located under the dash area, do you know if this is right or not?

My turn for a , no idea to be honest. I could look at my Chim/Griff bible when I get back later on, but that would be the best I could do. Iain (Chassis 33) may know if he is still about, otherwise someone else should hopefully be along shortly, if not try asking on one of those other threads.

Afraid so, the photo shows where I had to cut holes in the carpet to get at them. Another couple of links:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=232986&f=13&h=0

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=9&t=125904&h=0

22 bolts in all, 4 behind the fuel tank, 2 at the front, 14 underneath, and 2 under the dash. Plus as you pointed out the 6 for the seatbelts

Cheers

Oh, crap forgot about those two...there's also two ontop of the transmission tunnel roughly inline with the gear stick. There's no really easy way to get to these, either subtle cutting of carpet or removal of the transmission tunnel trim.

Apologies for the oversight.

Thanks everyone I'm glad other people know what there on about, taking the body off is a first for me but I'm sure it won't be long before I join the list of people who have started to do this.

Also, in my experience, you'll need to take the exhasut manifolds off as they foul the lower part of the inner wheel arches. A few other things you have to be aware of (sorry to drip feed the info, I'm just saying it as it comes to mind) and apologies if you;ve alredy done them...
-Brake and clutch pipes need disconnecting from inside the engine bay
-ECU plug and engine wiring will have to be fed through the hole in the bulkhead
-Fuel tank will have to be disconnected from fuel lines, but i presume you'll of done that already to acess the four rearmost bolts. The vent to the carbon canister will have to be disconected at both the fuel tan and the canister end as the pipe is zip-tied to he chassis
-silly things like brake servo hose and air inlet will need disconnecting, as will throttle cable

The carpet cutting picture is here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=8&t=215696&h=0 about half way down the page if you havent seen it already.

When you've got it off, get someone to 'Remove it' from your garage too. And replace it with the real deal - a Griffith body

When you do, let me know cos I'm sure the Chim racer will need a new shell sooner or (preferably) later, well preferably never, but...
