All you v8S owners out there. Please tell this novice and recent owner what petrol you use regularly in your v8s. With uleaded 95, super unleaded 97, and LRP to choose from, I`d be interested to know which you use and why?

Does depend on the timing set up on the car I believe and the preferred choice would seem to be Super Unleaded. I only have a humble 2.9 but from others I know with grown up engines they use the Super. Lots of debate on whether there is a loss of pinking or increase of power though........

I always use super unleaded 98 in my 2.9 S3C but I guess it may well be a complete waste of money. A friend of mine told me that a noticeable performance gain was felt when using SU98 in his MX-5, but he is also pretty sure that his car has more ooomph when outside temperature reaches sub 10C levels... He's right, as the air cools it increases in density, so for a given cylinder capacity you get more oxygen in. Modern engine management allows for this and meters more fuel, hence more power! You may also find that the car feels more powerful on a slightly misty morning. Rest assured that however cold it gets his MX-5 still won't be as powerful as a TVR!

I was told by the dealer when I picked up my car just to use SU 98 and I also have a sticker next to the fuel filler stating that that is all I should use. I didn't therefore realise that there was even an option to switch? Or are you guys just talking about engines smaller than the 500? It would have been useful yesterday when I was in a Jet garage that had no SU 98 and I was virtually down to the fumes in the tank...

There isn't. On the Rover V8 cars, you really need to use SU unless you've had the car's ignition adjusted or rechipped for plain U/L. On no account use LRP as it will kill the cat. You can use U/L in an emergency but don't labour the engine. There are descriptions of this in the various bibles and in the FAQ at www.tvrbooks.co.uk.
