Cam timing

Can anyone out there help with cam timing figures for a TVR435 cam?
Timing details or just the figure after TDC to set it at please. The chain needs replacing although the cam is fine,I have a nice new vernier set ready to go but cannot find the info.

Is there such a thing as a TVR885 cam? My cam has KCTVR885 stamped on the end. If there is, what would the timing be for that?

I have never heard of one but thats not too say there isnt, i would give dom or jamie a call as they probably speced this one

Surely that just stands for Kent Cams TVR 885 so probably the same cam.

think that a 500 cam, seem to remember that as my original cam.
Tiny had something like that too.

are you sure the vernier will fit your engine... they dont like serp engines... and dont let anyone talk you into removing the cam retaining plate to get it to fit. its horliks.

When I put my engine back together i didnt fancy the std 4ltr nylon toothed wheel so bought a vernier, which has since been replaced by a non vernier from John Eales whose cam I also bought ( only a 218)

i think that the 885 cam is the latest one that tvrp had made, but its still the standard 5 litre cam.

vernier chainset definately fits.

Thanks for the info, it had a vernier pulley fitted originally which was replaced with a billet steel one, long story but I had no option at the time. I have now bought a new vernier set and just need the setting figure so as I can fit it at the weekend. Just out of interest does anyone know the actual open / close time for the 435 as well? sad I know but useful for comparison with other options

jamie i am confused?? why call the 435 with another name? or is it one of those political things again!!
mr jenks you are probably going to have to speak to tvr power or cre due to the timing figures, although kent grind them they are from specs that people ie tvr power want doing so they wont tell you,

Graham there are several types of vernier pulleys the most common are from kent i agree the early ones wont fit but the later ones do no problem at all and still maintain the cam plate, and as far as i am concerned any performance aftermarket cam NEEDS to be dialled in with a vernier, whats the point of buying an after market cam if you dont know what your dialling it in at?? you have 2 keyways 2 pulleys with keyways lobe to keyway and chain stretch thats 6 things can screw cam timing up!!

Popped in to see Dom today, the 885 is the standard 500 cam. Thanks for the confirmations though guys!

No idea. I wasn't looking for any upgrade particularly, I'm just rebuilding a broken one.

Any opinions on the Cloyes 3-key timing sets as opposed to Vernier. Isn't vernier just introducing something else that potentially could go wrong?

a cloyes wont give you the adjustment that you are going to need, you should already have a vernier on your engine now if the chain is stretched which it probably is you can buy just the chain around £30 from memory
