Topgear last night - TVR 1.........Marcos 0 !!!!!!!!!
Discussion
I'm sure most of you saw it, but marcos GT2 posts lap time of 1 min 28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hehehehehehe.........so much for all that torque, superb handling and the fact that a couple of the car mags reckon it's soooooooooooo much faster than a sag............
Seem to recall the Sag posted a 1 min 24.secs?
Me thinks the sag (and tuscan2 and come to think of it the T350) have all creamed the marcos round the track......lovely.........

To be fair, the Sagaris is touted as a track car while the GT2 is not, its specifically a road car which should be good on track (which with that time it still is), so its not that bad a result.
But, as the mags have shown, in the real world with a less than superhuman drivers its a different story...

The T350 was also quicker than the Marcos (I don't recall the time - but it was 2 or 3 entries higher up the leader board). But 0-60 in 4.8 secs is quite impressive in itself. From the front view on track you could see that the ground clearance appeared to be an inch or two more than the Sag/Tam/350 which may explain the slower track time. I still like the GT2 but given the comments Clarkson made about how many times it broke down, I'm not sure that it would represent a better option than a Tiv as an every day car.

See you later fella.
And the Sagaris was only 0.2s faster than a Tuscan.

As a good supporter of TVR (heck, I'm even a member of the club), I think people have missed the point of the GT2 if they think the lap time is the be all and end all.
To be honest, if I wanted lap times, I'd buy an M400 rather than any TVR, at it spanks the lot of them. Oh bugger. I did.
For what it's aimed and, and just look at the size of the tyres, the way hampster could do massive, lurid, powerslides, it's not a be all and end all track weapon. It also clearly wasn't dry/dry, and the car had shredded a tyre and caused some interesting "effects" to the wheel prior to the timed lap.
Throw in the car featured was the only GT2 in existinance, and is the pre-production car, then for something that, in the main, will be a long distance GT cruiser rather than a track day weapon, I think it didn't do too bad overall.
Clearly it's not aimed at the Saggy market (for a start it doesn't look as wild as the saggy did), but given the luggage space in the rear, the comfort of the interior, and the overall package, I'm going to be biased and still look forward to seeing one of it's derivative production cars on my forecourt.
That's more than can be said for any current, new, TVR I'm sorry to say.

How do you download from this site? it never works for me
You need a programme called 'Bit Torrent'. Although files do take some time to download.
I think it all comes down to whether you want a track weapon or a ballistic road car with effortless performance.
I have to say that the TSO is polarising TVR drivers - the RV8-engined cars seem to like the idea of the Marcos, which really is in spirit an update of the Griff/Chim, while the SP6-engined cars have (understandable) loyalty to the Sagaris.
I personally want the "ballistic road car", and on real bump-ridden roads, slightly softer suspension, with more wheel travel, and higher-profile tyres can often mean a faster car. (not to mention shed-loads more torques, as Jezza would say). I remember driving my old Civic Type-R (rock hard suspension) over a pass in the Lake District, and bouncing around so much I unable to keep up with a British Gas Fiesta van!!
I really like the Marcos, and I wouldnt feel so bad about defecting from TVR to that marque, (big V8, ex-TVR stylists). I think it will come down to the size of the cockpit...which on the occasion I have sat in it is SMALL.

Whereas the V8 Cerb drivers already have the best of both worlds

But where do you put the Tuscan in that equation? Only marginally slower round the track than the Sagaris with the boot space and comfort of a road car.
Also given how careful you have to be in a Tuscan on damp roads with comparatively little low down torque, I can imagine the Marcos being a bit of a handful over winter.
