Best-selling TVR Sagaris
Gatwick TVR has come up with some tempting offers for the Christmas period.

Its seasonal offer consists of three options. If you select any new TVR from the dealer's current stock for delivery during December 2005 or January 2006 you can choose one of the following:

Technology Package

The Pioneer AVIC-X1R: an integrated solution for DVD navigation, traffic information, radio, MP3 CD and DVD video, complete with a six-disc CD auto-changer (or iPod interface) and a fully fitted Thatcham Cat 5 Approved Matrix Vehicle Recovery System.

Total Package value £2,500

Budgeted Cost Package

Three years free servicing: the 6,000 scheduled, the 12,000 mile (tappet) scheduled and the 18,000 mile scheduled service.

Total Package value £2,760

Cash Package

£2,000 cash-back upon collection of car.

All of the above options are in addition to its usual “On the Road” pack.

Sounds like a great deal, and definately a good time to buy a new TVR.

I assume the deals available from other dealers (Racing Green's looks especially good on the Tuscan 2 Conv S) aren't paying for the advertisement so haven't been mentioned?

The technology offer sounds pricey from my previous investigations on how much this stuff cost, but the other two offers sound decent.

The Avic X-1 can now be bought for less than £1K!!

The 3 years free servicing, coupled with the 3 year warranty seems very good, however - 3 years free motoring and not having to worry about 'niggles'. That is VERY tempting!

That's all very well regards servicing - but make sure they underwrite it! For instance what happens if they choose to shut up shop next December?!

Good point. Judging by this blatant discounting, dealers continue to have a very tough time and might not survive too much longer.

You should read the terms and conditions of the 3 year warranty. Don't want to p1ss on anyone's fire, but I reckon most 'niggles' won't be coverd (electrics, trim...).

I got their promotional TXT this morning too. Basically, order a Tuscan 2 before NYE and upgrade it to a Tuscan 2 S for £2k. Apparently that's almost £6k saving. Hell of a saving!

Well said Jasper!
And this is one of the most 'desirable' (relatively!) Foci, being a diesel and low insurance, if that's being discounted that much, and for the updated model, things are bad!

Come on Jasper J think about it, Ford volume vs TVR volume is why Ford dealers get away with it, Focus's are just domestic goods, TVR's are bespoke, luxury goods. If TVR dealers are having to resort to Ford dealer tactics just to shift metal (OK GRP!) than that does say alot about the current state of the market.

point taken.. but business is business.. we all know that at calendar or fiscal year end every private sector company (sales person) has targets to hit or better still exceed (TVR dealers are no different). Perhaps they have not been so upfront in the past.. but there is/has always been a deal to be struck.. thankfully some TVR dealers are actually 'marketing' themselves now. Walk into any 'luxury' car dealer and pick a car (in stock) and you can negotiate something. They might not want to give you a discount off list.. but they will give you an exaggerated trade in price, 0% finance, servicing for a year etc. Ford was just an example - we could all find more appropriate examples.. check out the £2k off a Lotus at Dream Machines !!

The current state of the market is that it's December, which is always a weak month for sales, especially of TVRs, which are more commonly a spring purchase.

Don't worry about any potential permanent problem. I promise that winter is not with us forever.

....from our current stock?!? I thought TVR's were made to order?
Is their stock part of the 440 cars (20% increase over 2004) expected to be made this year?
For a small manufacturer of specialised kit it doesn't sound great to me.

Agree generally about December though, Citroen at a price war again, and I have just picked up a new Subaru Legacy Sports Tourer 3.0 Spec B for about £6k off!

PS Ford discounting - if you read the business pages you will see that they are completely broke.... as it is rumoured for some other car companies at the moment.

25% of TVR dealers have closed over the last 18 months. What proportion of Ford dealers closed down over the same period??

Advertising large discounts on a public forum is not negotiation. Residuals are bad enough as it is. But I completely understand their motivation, some of their stock cars seem to have been there a long time.

I've often suspected that when the order book isn't quite full it makes sense to keep the workers occupied building a few cars in typical spec' which should sell to a buyer who's looking for immediate delivery. There's also a small amount of efficiency in churning out a batch of cars in broadly similar spec'. Residuals are under pressure across the industry and sadly the mighty Tiv is not exempt.

... the actual Ford dealership (advert) above is owned by Inchcape (www.inchcape.co.uk/).. their dealership network include BMW, Lexus, Volvo, VW, Vauxhall, Merc, Renault, Jag etc etc. There are similar companies.. like Pendragon, Marshalls etc. Its a little different to an independent TVR dealer.. they can afford decisions that an independent TVR dealer could not. In fact they could close/reduce their Ford dealership in a blink of an eye and just switch floor space to VWs, Jags, BMWs etc.. without you or I ever knowing. (eg 25% of TVR dealers 'might' have closed.. but 'perhaps' Ford showroom space has reduced by a similar amount and you and I would never know). I'm not blinkered - TVR & TVR dealerships need to sell more cars or survive (especially at this time of the year). I'm also not naïve enough to think that any dealership needs to do this to continue to trade.. hence industry deals across the board (subtle or not). Why should TVR not be allowed to do this. (even on a public forum)..just because they have perhaps not done it before?
