Am I missing the point?

someone is selling a pair or number plates bearing the number TVR 1A, but the owner is retaining the ownership of number TVR 1A on a retention certificate.

Currently £250 has been bid. Why would anyone bid £250 for a pair of plates they cannot legally use? Or am I missing the point here?

I think he is just using it as advertisement, but no doubt some have not read it properly!

That was purchased at a local auction in October I think, for something like £2500 - but can't remember exactly - so he wont be selling the certificate for less than this (if he is, I'll have 'em!) I was going to bid at the DVLA auction, but glad I didn't waste the day - a plate is just a plate FFS - bit of a lark if reasonable, but let's not get carried away.

Surely a company such as fancy plates could knock me up far better ones, such as TVR 1, for far less.

I'm not sure who is the most stupid. Yourself for advertising it, or the bidders (probably the latter).

I hope/think we will see the ads pulled soon. Fraud isnt something that they look kindly upon on Ebay. It is misrepresentation IMHO.
