Tesco 99 0ctane

Anyone else tried this?

My 2000 Chim 450 Does not like 95 or BP Ultima, runs like a dream on Optimax.

Today I gave it a tank of Tesco 99 octane. Runs even smoother, especially in traffic. Exhaust seems to have at least as many pops and bangs as before, acceleration seems at least as good, if not better.

Tickover is definitely improved. Used to vary between 700- 1000, now between 850-950, much steadier needle, and yes I have cleaned the stepper motor!

Best part is the price, in Maidstone I think it was about 88p/litre, much cheaper than the Shell stuff although I do realise that prices have dropped a bit in the last week or two.

Only thing that spoiled the run out was the ice alert glowing, green then orange, haven't had it to red yet!!

Without being a sceptic, I think a lot of your findings might be in your imagination. It takes at least a full tank or 2 to get through your engine BEFORE you start 'feeling' any difference (if there are any). You have to flush all the old petrol and additives out first. So seeing a difference immediatly is highly unlikely IMO.

There was thread about it earlier, I put it in my griff and did instantly notice the difference, the tank was nearly on fumes.. though..

My Mini is averaging 2-3mpg more on the 99 octane tesco fuel.

Like you say, any performance gain is probably largely in the head, but it does seem a little sharper.

Quite impressed for the cost TBH, I'd certainly run a serious performance car on it...

I have been running my chim on it for the past 1500 miles or so, and it seems as good as or even better than optimax. Mine doesn`t like BP ultimate or any 95 petrol. Plus the petrol garage is about 2 miles from my house as opposed to 15 miles for optimax!

i like the thought of paying less for a high octane fuel.But i wonder about the quality,e.g. will it have the cleaning additives to the same standard as optimax?I was seriously impressed with the evo magazine long term test on optimax,and dont like the thought of putting in a fuel that wont look after the engine in the same way.

I notice Tesco have their 'Metro'outlets within some Esso filling stations,perhaps this stuff is Esso 'Supreme' high octane in a Tesco wrapper ?
FWIW,had a most pleasant 'finest' Tesco Ribeye steak tonite, much more tender than their normal stuff.

Given that my griff has either always had bog standard 95 or 97 unleaded from whoever, and not had any problems, i'm fairly sure the additives, are as least as good as texaco 95 unleaded.
