to warrant/not to warrant

ok i bought a 2002 tuscan 4 weeks ago,33k miles fsh no engine work etc etc...
it came with a transferable warranty,err..except it didnt 'cos the company wont transfer it.so what do i do?
i know some will say get one asap because its a sp6 but i dont know.
thing is i never buy a extra warranty with anything,washers,plasma tv whatever,i think i look after my gear and dont often have problems,but as has been shown many times over, there is a high likelihood of my needing work at some point on my engine.
thing is how much is a good warranty and will they pay out?
TVR warranty looks like about £1k,are there cheaper ones that are still some good or is it false economy?
or is it the case that if you have a search round for a competent independent garage/mechanic that repairs could be made for sensible money? therefore not bothering with the warranty.
i know its my decision,thing is i ran my cerb for two years with no warranty and no real scary bills so maybe thats swaying me a bit.

The warranty doesn't just cover the engine though.
I've used my warranty for lots of little things (ie. oil sender, faulty speedo, brake lights, fans etc.).
The dealer bought me a 2ry warranty for £1400 when i bought the car and its fair to say in the last 2 years, I've probably had roughly £1400 of warranty work on the car so its pretty close as to whether I'd buy one myself.
My engine hasn't gone bang though so you may want that peace of mind. Just be careful that the warranty covers the engine and they won't try and worm out of it by using a "customer mis-use" clause.

I've taken out the AA Parts and Labour Plus Warranty on my Cerb and altho' haven't had to claim on it yet - proff of the pudding and all that, on face value it it excellent value at £99pa for up to three claims pa of £1000 max each - wldnt meet a full rebuild but covers the middle range stuff as long as it ddoes do waht it says on the label. Have read the samll print and seems ok. Anyone else with one claimed on it yet?
I bought one for my Griff from the RAC........seemed a no brainer to me (only to find it only covered cars upto 10 years old.....

TVR's new warranty DOES cover the full cost of an engine rebuilt, should the worst happen.
The cost of the warranty is £1250 (£950 without the wear & tear option).
It also covers clutch, gearbox, electrics, etc, etc, any of which are likely to set you back more that the cost of the warranty itself.
Its a no-brainer.

Both claims I needed to call the break down service out to get them to decide if it was a genuine break down.
1. £400 ish for a Starter motor.
2. "internal failure" in the steering rack
They paid £975. I had to pay the rest £500. £975 as you pay an excess of £25 each claim!

Can somebody also give me the names of some people that supply warranties as the ones I've rang just laugh at me whenI say I'm after a warranty for a Tiv.

Yes, its a TVR approved used warranty scheme.

I spoke to TVR Power about this earlier.
The current deal is that the car has to be under 5 years old. The inspection takes about 2-3 hours and together with the warranty is £1250. It is very comprehensive and even covers wear and tear on clutches etc. The only evclusions are everyday consumables like brake pads, tyres etc.
