Porsche to TVR

Hi all,

It started at the Le Mans ferry....but I am now starting to fancy a bit of Tuscan action (if I don't go for a Noble).

Usual concerns. Anyone gone from a Boxster to a Tuscan and care to comment?

Spent Saturday morning at TVR North London and coming around to the view that every petrol head must have a TVR at some stage.

If it's any use to you, I had a late generation 928S4, which is a reasonable power comparison to the Tuscan.

The Tiscan would rip the porker to fluffly little shreds in every respect except for long distance cruising. In terms of sheer shove, the TVR leaves most Porsches in its wake, and I would imagine the at a traffic light shoot out, the Boxster's engine management would simply switch the car off and eject the key in objection.

We have gone from a 2.7 Boxster to a Tamora (via a few other cars) but so far we are delighted with the move we have made.

There really is no comparison.

I own a Boxster S and a Chimaera. I have driven Tuscans and have friends with them. Here is a very short and very honest viewpoint: bear in mind its only my viewpoint.

Things you will like about the Tuscan:

* Wild eye-catching looks
* Awesome noise (although TVRV8 owners do not agree)
* Blistering performance (yes - much quicker)
* Bizarre, fun interior with lovely "metal bits"
* Single capacious boot
* TVR owners very friendly - a real 'in-crowd'

Things you will miss about the Porsche:

* Mass market build quality
* Superb mid-engined handling with grip, grip, grip.
* Swift operating electric roof
* Superior reliability (even though Porsches are by no means bullet proof)
* Superior attention to detail in the design - better ergonomics
* Climate control!
* Running costs!


Go test drive a Tuscan. Rent one for a weekend. Try it out for size. If the Missus was to replace our Chimaera with anything it would be a Tuscan Convertible.

Be aware living with a TVR is an experience filled with minor maintenance. If you can't accept that don't buy one and fill the forums with complaints about build quality.

I went from a Boxster S to a TVR V8S (and an A8 too due to new baby) I must say there is no comparison in terms of smile factor. The Porsche is very reliable, yes, and will cost less to run, but you will never regret your purchase as the good always outweighs the bad.........?

As Don says the TVR lot are a very friendly bunch and the 'TVR Community' side of things is all part of TVR ownership, it becomes a way of life, rather than just a car. Even though the Boxster cost £43K, which is much more than my TVR, theres no comparison and I will never sell the TVR, its the first car I have ever wanted to keep.
