Hi, Does anybody know of anyone who has successfully exported a TVR to Australia? Basically, I''m considering leaving our damp nation for the sun. There''s no way I can leave without my beloved Tuscan though :-) I''ve done some investigating in Oz about importing my car, which initially has horrified me with the outrageous amount of taxation the bar stewards want to levy. I''ve heard a rumour that if the vehicle is over a year old, the taxes don''t apply. I''m yet to qualify that, though. My worries are: a) The cost of getting the car to and into Oz b) Support once I''ve got the thing there. On the latter point, I''ve yet to find any TVR prescence in Oz, let alone Sydney (where I''m considering the move to). Does anyone have any stories of doing this successfully or any helpful hints and tips? Thanks! --Phips

Yeah, thanks. That's the one I started at, which led me to look at the customs duty calculations. And scared me! I'm still confused about this rumour I've heard about not having to pay the tax if the car is over a year old

I too am looking to move out to Sydney and was thinking of taking my Griff - if it is not too bad in terms of price / effort then let me know!

Hi Lee, Been doing a lot of research into this, and have come to the conclusion it's nigh on impossible - or, at least, bloody expensive. Take a look at the URL lestag posted to this thread. I've had this all confirmed by email from the customs people, there's no dodging/concessions on the tax front. I therefore worked out that it would cost me nearly 17,000 UKP in TAXES ALONE to get my year old Tuscan into Australia Then there's shipping and shipping insurance - the former circa 1k and the latter, I have no idea. I should imagine another 1k though. So, nearly 20k, just to get the car into the country. I may have to face facts - it's Australia to live, or the car Arse. --Phips

Its a tough choice but think of the beaches, the women, the climate, the cost of living (need I go on?!). I want to go and have looked into selling my car but it looks like I would only get peanuts for it!

Oh no, that's my exact reason for facing facts, the Tuscan won't be going...

If it's worth nowt, then taking it will be cheap. It's when the car is worth a lot the taxes clobber you. Take a look at the link and do the math, you might be surprised. Could be worth taking it. --Phips
