Cut you losses and sell as is, guessing it's a Chimaera 400?

As I am sure you know, you would be unlikely to get away with "just a chassis refurbish" something else would rear it's ugly head. If you really intend to sell then I think sell as is.

Profile says a Chimaera 500, but may be out of date of course. I'm contemplating a V8 Vantage instead too. scratchchin

I hate to say it but cut your losses.
The cost of chassis refurb will cost more than it will ever recover in resale.
It’s a waste of money unless you are keeping the car frown

Id agree that if it were a keeper its worth doing if the paintwork etc was good as it can spiral out of control.
The V8D engine etc will certainly appeal to some, all you can do is list it as is and try it really but prepared to have your pants pulled down offer wise.
Is the chassis really that far gone or does it just need outriggers?

Definitely worth restoring in that case, not many 500s around now and judging by the sounds of its overall condition you'd retain a high value when finished.
The problem with selling with it needing the work is then people start quoting five figure restoration costs and don't want to pay much for the car.

I have body off restored my Chim 500 and my old Pre Cat griff and im also just re assembling a customers 500 Griff after a body off, they can be done quite a bit cheaper if you know a small independent outfit with a 2 post lift wink

I am not a car trader, but I get the impression that the cost of restoration is rarely reflected in the price, although it does make the car easier to sell.

If I was considering buying a newly restored car I'd be wondering how well it was restored. I'd prefer to have the money and be able to organise the restoration myself with people I trust, rather than hope whoever did it had the same standards as me.

The simple answer would be to replace outriggers and Dinitrol the rest then sell as a going concern.
That would be the least risky way to get much of your investment money back.

Guys, thank you for all the replies and thoughts, much to think about... scratchchin

One of the cars has to go, they're just not being used...

I've owned Beastie for 15 years now, and the Aston for nearly 9.... time to move on frown

Crikey bloke, can't believe you've had the Aston for 9 years yikes Where does time go? I know it will be a wrench when beastie goes, but if like me once you've thought of selling, it never seems the same. Good luck mate.

I'd be tempted to have the chassis refurbed if the engine is strong and the rest of the car is in good order, they did a Cerbera chassis on Wheeler Dealers or Ed did and it looked brand new afterwards. What would it cost to do in today's money ?

Not sure about that ... I bought a Yellow 400 in 2004 at £17k , 2 years later part-ex'ed it for £14k against my new Tuscan Vert and I now see the same car is for sale on here at £21k smile .

My tuscan has had the chassis done at sportmotive, i think chimaera and griffith refurbished chassis start from 12k plus the vat. There will always be other stuff you will need want doing though.

I had both my Griff 500 (kept it) and my T350C (sold it during/after) have a body off restoration at TVR101, a few years back.

Prices were a bit cheaper a few years ago - but approx. £12,500 for a Griff/Chim now - plus what you are tempted to do
The Griff drove like new (better than) and felt like a brand new car. A bargain to be honest, than buying another sportscar.

https://www.tvr101.co.uk/restoration/

and they do just outriggers aswell.

If you are keeping it, it is well worth doing (I've had my Griff for 27 years) imho

And whilst I was having the body off done on the T350C, someone gave me an offer I could not refuse on the T350C,
the buyer was able to have a look at the car, during the process, and even starting choosing what colour to paint the callipers, etc - so 'sold' ;-)

It really helped the sale, and in my T350Cs case I recouped the cost.
(LS3 car though, so very unique - over 400 BHP/tonne - and the new owner is tracking it hard)

(Sportmotive are good to, just miles away from me. They did the Fiberon vented bonnet on my Griff, repainted the front clams aswell, and a new hood (and bits and pieces), before the body off at TVR101, so I can also recommend Sportmotive TVR)
