0-100 in 0.82 sec . where??
Discussion
Santa Pod, thats where. Quite humbling when you think you've got a fast car . Two top fuelers, side by side , both exeeding 300mph in under 5 seconds. awesome!! Not a bad afternoons entertainment, shame to miss the BNG tho..
0.82secs to 100. Isnt that 10 times faster than a Sagaris? Be a bitch to park tho.. :)

How long were you @ the Pod fella? Did you do the whole weekend or a one day affair?

Not the whole weekend, We're light weights, turned up about 12.30 on the sun,(missing the mud bath on Sat) timed it about right as nothing much ran untill 2.00ish. (luck not managment)
I would fancy a RWUB day but dont know if i could stand some spotty youth in a max powered Saxo beating me to the line, be a bit of fun tho.

If you've already read the Oh Bugger we broke it thread, you'll understand why we weren't there!
Sounds like once the weather/track cleared there was some good racing... We broke on Thursday and watched a great days racing on Friday...
Unfortunately, due the slightly abnormal box requirement that we have, there is quite a lead time on the replacement and we won't be racing at the October Meet
[shameless plug/help request] if you know anyone that would fancy sponsoring next years pro-et championship winner, drop me an email!!! [/shameless pluss/help request]

Tuscan grabs all my spare cash pal, sorry.
I see you have a Nova grasser as well as your dragster
respect. I used to grass a nova in class seven (as it was then)saloon special. built it with a 2.8inj in the back with a cossie turbo. Went like a bullet but knocked big ends out to often.
(bad choice of engine) my local club hosted 'Fastest man on grass' on the Lincolnshire show ground, you ever come down to that ? August bank holiday w'end.
Dave.
ps. good luck with your gearbox.

The analagy (sp) that often gets used is.. .. ..if a car was travelling at 200 mph, and a top fueller launched as it went past on the startline, at the end of the quarter mile, the dragster would be in front. I await the mathematical sceptics to prove it wrong.
kim
A car travelling at 200mph will cover the quarter mile in 4.5 seconds, a car that can do the 1/4 mile in less than 4.5 seconds will beat it

Theres just ONE thing I dont understand about top fuellers.... you'd think the amount of cash that goes into those engines in a few seasons worth of dragging, they'd have designed a reliable engine by now....
I've held a top-fuellers rod and piston down at autocraft, this thing was humungous compared to everything else, bloody light too, aluminium, just enough to last a run I bet.... I wander if there are top-fuellers out there running titanium rods
probably bill gates sponsors that team...
slinky, I'd sponsor ya my friend, but I'll need sponsors soon too... I'm searching my pockets as it is...

I must agree Ash, it does amaze me that they don't push some of the materials a bit further, or chose to use alternative materials for the major components that tend to fail...
The cost involved is crazy for all aspects of a top fuel car, the engine holds 16 litres of oil, but the oil is destroyed by the fuel so it's changed after every run, and most teams will change the oil after a warm up as well!! so that's effectively 32 litres of oil! and that's just one of the elements! add to that the valve train, pistons that invariabled get eaten, clutch packs, tyres etc etc etc... it's crazy!
Cheers for the offer chap, I can appreciate quite what goes in to building a drag racing vehicle.. I know what went into ours, so I can only imagine how your pocket is feeling!!!
Working in the insurance industry, I have a feeling that there are a couple of high profile, high performance brokers that may well be interested in the exposure that our car may bring next season, if I can speak to the right people (which I'm sure I may well be able to do) it could make life a lot easier for us next season and get the right companies name quite a lot of exposure in the drag racing world...
There are an awful lot of petrol heads that attend race meets, regardless of whether it's a pro meet like the Euro Finals (last weekend) or the Custom Car All Star Nationals (a couple of weeks ago) that only had demo runs of pro cars and all classes that ran were sportsman classes...
Fingers crossed I can find the right company and things should go swimmingly from there!!!
all the best,

Aye, grassing is where it all started, quite some years ago, Dick, our crew chief, has many many trophies stashed in the loft from his grassing days...
It's fantastic grass roots motorsport (quite literally!) and can be enjoyed by anyone on a very limited budget, or can be taken to the n'th degree and can break the bank quite easily... racing in class 2 is great for us as the money involved isn't huge, but next season is going to be a fun one, we're intending to get a little scientific! However, rule changes may put the dampers on some of our plans we'll still have the scales out
Not been anywhere near the fastest man on grass I'm afraid, but our driver has raced against the fastest lady! We keep eyeing up the sports compact market in the states and looking at unlimited fwd clases in grass, considering whats available over there, and with a better budget, we really could shake things up in grassing with a Honda Civic
our time will come!!! Cheers for the luck, the box is on it's way... as I said tonight at our drivers place... "F**K it, we'll fit it at the track if we need to!"

If you need an extra pair of hands, and we havent broken something, gimme a shout, okay ?

I've also noticed that many of the engine parts seem to be 'off the shelf' and teams appear to use the same stuff. My guess is that the difference in winning or losing is being able to apply all the power to the track. In other words, they probably don't need more power but gains elsewhere? My piston catalogue even stocks top fuel pistons and rods. It's very interesting stuff and the pit guys are happy to chat with you.

Both very true comments, it's quite easy, to see on high powered cars (Top Methanol Funny Car and upwards), where cars are putting in too little or too much clutch (the top end stuff runs "direct drive" and progressively moves the clutch throughout the run) at the start of the run, it's all important at the start of the run to get the balance just right, too little and the engine bogs and looses power, too much and you over power the track and spin the wheels..
In most "real world" cases, spinning the wheels isn't too bad, but on an engine with an overdriven supercharger and direct drive wheelspin is a BIG issue. In the forced induction "chain" there is an engineered weak link called the "burst plate" this is factored in to allow a easy route out for excessive boost (typically caused by the aforementioned wheelspin and engine over-rev) so as not to destroy any major engine components with HUGE amounts of boost. Blowing the burst plate leaves you with no forced induction, and probably without most of your fuelling!
It is indeed a very tricky balance to draw!
And the pit crews, as long as you haven't caught them in the middle of something, will always be happy to have a chat, hell, even we sportsman racers welcome visitors!
