Rovergauge Linux Ubunto
Discussion
I am trying to install the rovergauge software on my PC which is Linux Ubunto for use with a TVR (trying to establish root cause of failed emissions) I have downloaded the software to 'downloads' but cannot get any further, does anyone have experience of doing this on Linux or can help ?
Yes, but not on the version of Linux you are running - I use both Arch and Debian.
This is the place to start https://github.com/colinbourassa/rovergauge and read the instructions for Linux carefully.
I believe Ubuntu is based on Debian so you may just be able to download the .deb package and install it with whatever package installer you have. Otherwise you will need to download the source, compile it and install it from the command line. Not difficult, but the actions needed will depend on your distro and you will have to look up how to do that in your environment. Good luck!

Thanks for feedback, I eventually managed to get rovergauge loaded but I am now having problems trying to connect to the serial port. After sometime I think I have managed to find the port name, see below:
[ 0.140797] printk: console [tty0] enabled
[ 22.209399] dw-apb-uart.8: ttyS4 at MMIO 0x82324000 (irq = 4, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A
[ 22.222043] dw-apb-uart.9: ttyS5 at MMIO 0x82322000 (irq = 5, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A
[ 22.235644] dw-apb-uart.10: ttyS6 at MMIO 0x82320000 (irq = 7, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A
[ 137.200292] usb 1-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0
but in rover gauge, see below, I get the following error message:
Any ideas would be most welcomed, PS it works fine with windows so I guess its something I am doing wrong with Linux.

There is a free android version of rovergague knocking about.
It's called RS-RV8.
Rovergague is also free, thanks Colm!
However, you have to buy a cable to connect the pc based rovergague software or the android based RS-RV8 app from a well respected chap on pistonheads, in order for either diagnostic tools to function.
I can't remember the gentlemans name, but I wish he would contribute to the community and teach us how to make our own cables!
Someone wrote a free android version replacement for the MBE ECU AJP8 and AJP6 diagnostic software for the wheeler era cars. And also posted a "how to" on making your own cable, for the later cars, with the three pin ECU interface, as opposed to the 8pin din connector inside the earlier MBE ECU's
HTH!

It might be a poermissions thing. Your user needs to be in the dialout group I think At least that was one of the stumbling blocks I had, but it was a few years ago.[ 0.140797] printk: console [tty0] enabled

Happened to connect my Griff up to Debian Linux today and can confirm that the port assigned is the same as above: usb 1-8: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0On selecting this port Rovergauge works fine here
