Advised Spare Stat

After an engine over heat caused by a dud thermostatas confirmed by a RAC mec, who then rubbed salt in the wound by stating that RAC mechs are no longer allowed to remove dud thermostats to enable you to get home (Low Loader :vomit:)
The moral of the story & my advice is; now carry a spare stat & gasket as well other basics, or suffer the "well you guys will buy TVR" & other non-interesting conversations with the low loader driver ;).

If that was the only problem then they could have just removed the stat and let you drive home with the cooling system working flat out. It'd make the engine run cold, but no particular harm as a one-off. Is the problem that they weren't allowed to open it up, rather than that they weren't allowed to replace the stat?

Yes, is now more than their job is worth to open up & remove Stats etc, also I could have done it myself if I had some sealant or a gasket on board at the time.
