(Couldn’t see a thread on this already)

In case anyone missed it, Ian Lambert of TorqueRVT succumbed to cancer last week.

He “held my hand” as I made my first steps into TVR ownership, a prospect which had daunted me. I was never any good on the spanners, but Ian happily made himself available to help me out: he even called me from his holiday in Tenerife last summer to advise me on my broken door electrics.

He had such a hearty laugh and always seemed happy to help. I shall miss him.

Met Ian once when he came with a customer of his to carry out an inspection on a T350 I was selling. He was as mad as a March hare, a total eccentric, but what a laugh. Turned up at 7pm and didn’t until 11, he was side splittingly funny. Even in that short space of time he left a lasting impression. RIP.

Oh no. That is terrible news. So sorry to hear that. I've not seen Ian for a couple of years as I moved on from the TVRs but that is a shock.

I spent many days, evenings and nights with Ian. Mad as a hatter but a lovely man. I wish all his friends and family the best for the future. Gutted.

So sorry to learn of Ian’s passing.

I admit that I haven’t used his company for several years frustrated by Ian’s differing perspective on the passage of time than most other people. However, we was certainly a lovely guy and frequently did little odd jobs that he noticed needed doing and then not charging me.

His premises were like an Aladdin’s cave of all things TVR - didn’t he own one of the prototype Cerberas?

I miss Ian already! I used to spend hours at his garage when booked in for some work or MOT. Got the music turned up loud and boogied the hours away. One of the best people l ever knew tbh. Gutted.

Such very sad news indeed . Ian was a one off for sure , He was a very affable fella with an infectious sense of mischief and humour not to mention a totally eclectic vision of life. He looked after my Tuscan and later a couple of visits to him with the Sag ............................. Never left TorqueRVT on time though smile , Ian had a huge knowledge base and experience and always a huge laugh and smile always had time for a chat and a coffee .

Ian was a highly respected member of the TVR community and his passing is a huge loss .

Gone far too young .

RIP Ian

Like many others; I cold called him before I'd ever met him in order to pick his brains on buying a TVR, especially with the almost legendary speed 6 engine. Despite not knowing who I was he gave up valuable time (sorry if he was working on your car at the time) in order to pass on his experience and help me. Once I'd got the car it made sense for him to carry out my servicing (again; the estimated completion always varied from the actual- but it was worth it) during my ownership I've spent many happy hours in his company, he always had a smile on his face and seemed to enjoy his work. He (and Rach) hauled me (and Jacquie) out of the s*%t on numerous occasions, I was gutted to hear of his passing last week. the world is a worse place without him. I shall miss him terribly

Sounds like a great loss to the community. Know a few people like that amongst the various marques I've owned. Love spending time at those type of garages, places you can drop by for a cuppa anytime. RIP.

Rach just called me with the news.
Totally gutted.

Bless you Ian, always loved being in your company.

I'll miss our romantic sunrises from when you've worked on my Tuscan through the night.
When you used to fall asleep while adjusting throttle bodies at 4:00am and then slowly wake up and carry on.

Fortunately Rach came along and rescued you from yourself.
So good to hear you and Rach married in February.

R.I.P. Ian, will miss you massively.

I only got over to Ian's place twice with my Tuscan before hearing this sad news, which came out of the blue.

The first time I was made to feel welcome and felt instantly at home there. You know you are talking to an enthusiast when a garage owner says if you want to tinker with your car you are welcome to do it round at his place and he will help you out f you need it, then points to a Chimaera outside with a grin and says it belongs to a customer who has been working on it for years.

The second time was less like taking the car for a service and more like going to see friends.

Ian was a diamond and has left us all far, far too soon.

Utterly shocked, so sad for your loss Rachel. Ian did some stirling work on setting up my white TVR 280S a couple of years ago and it was great to meet you both.

I've only just seen this sad news about Ian Lambert. I spent many an hour at his garage when I had my TVR Griffiths. He was a great guy, and hs knowledge it TVRs was extensive. I hadn't seen him since I sold my Griffiths in 2006. RIP Ian
